As drivers, everyone has this perception that the most of us are also into fast cars and loud Harleys with equally loud pipes.
However, when I was driving, I carried my main mode of non-truck transport in the cab and still use it to get around everywhere each day.

I figure when your usual, errand-running trips are under a 5-15 mile radius, I just don't see the need to burn fuel or contribute to the typical boredom of surface street traffic.

Although I still crack up when some fools around here act like it's a big deal, or they think I'm doing it for some kooky social/political activism statement.
The latter kind of shuts up when I ride over to In'N'Out and scarf down a 4x4 Animal Style.

I haven't ridden a bicycle in 20 years. :lol:
Would I, if I had one? Probably so.
Would I ride for several miles? Probaby not.

I love riding a bike. I have one, but it just sits in the garage. I used to ride one everywhere I went until I was around 16 or 17.

I live in a perfect neighborhood to ride. There's miles and miles of low traffic paved roads around here. I guess I'm just getting old and lazy.

I try to ride mine when I find time and it doesn't have 2 flat tires. In High School it wasn't uncommon to go away for the weekend and ride 50 miles on a Saturday then camp Saturday night in the mountains with a group of buddies. At the end of the day we'd do a Tour De France type finish, last 2-3 miles we'd race to camp. Rode the Colonial Parkway in Williamsburg, VA and nearly got a ticket on our bikes. Our group was running along in a draft at 40 mph, it was only 25 mph in the area we were in. Now though, the weekend gets here and I just want to relax or I have things around the house to take care of and simply can't find the time to ride.

I did not do a lot of riding a bicycle when I was driving. But, now that I'm retired, I seldom use the car. Only if it's raining. Going to the grocery store, the parts store, or just plain going, I take the bike. I put baskets on, front and back, and a couple of bungees to keep things from falling out, and I'm not on any schedule anymore. Been invited out for Easter Dinner, and will take the car to get there, but it sits long enough, I need to check the tires before I move it to make sure they still have air.

I carry the entire bicycle shop in my rear-rack bag.

Punctured inner-tubes, rusty chains with stuck links, loose fork stem, all could be serviced with the Park tools in my kit.

I ride plenty working the job I'm doing right now.
Driving the truck put that bicycle in places where I would've never thought one could ride.
Downtown Atlanta coming from the Decatur terminal was definitely an exhilarating pedal jaunt through the forested roads of central GA.

I guess the Age of Discovery never ends.

I used to race ABA and NBL bmx for about 8 years. I still have my S&M Challenger in the trailer at all times and a collection of "mid-school" bmx 20" and 24" bikes from my hayday at the house. I got a low level Specialized Hardrock for screwing around on.

I still have my Trek 3500 (aluminum, full rigid mountain bike) behind the house... I don't have the energy or time to ride it during the work week, and usually hike on the weekend, since I now have a dog and a non-riding girlfriend.

Shouldn't be that hard to get her to ride.
Start out small and then gradually increase distance, that's the way I pulled it off.

I like my old 1984 mountain bike. Bought from a friend 20 years ago and painted it and adjusted/oiled/tuned it all up, new seat, brake shoes and tires. Never time to get in a good long ride anymore. Don't carry it on the truck - it would get filthy. Too much traffic and exhaust fumes near truck stops anyway.

I will never wear those dufus helmets or those queer bicycle clothes.

I can still ride "no hands"!
