Toyota has always made good 4-wheel drive pickups.
We have 2 on the farm. They are older ones, but good ones. I just hope the throttle doesn't hang when I'm driving one.

I agree with Bald Eagle,... I think just about everybody has had recalls. I have a 2002 half ton Chevy, and they had a recall on the cables on my tailgate. I didn't take it in or anything. I'm not too worried about my tailgate cables.
Everyone has recalls. I just think Toyota is an easy to make fun of company.

I was just working on the front drive axles on a Kia minivan the last two days. What I got a look at under the hood tells me I will never own one. At least not in this lifetime. Lose a timing belt on that V-6 and you're looking at a new vehicle. I'll take a bicycle first. Not with that engine.

I wasnt talking about the product, I was talking about the fact that the executives have admitted they knew about the problems and chose to hide it from the public

I think this entire circus is designed to make lawyers rich. They are already circling the wagons and putting a class action lawsuit together. The only ones who will benefit from this are the lawyers. I think that Toyota has gotten on top of this and did their recall. In fact, they seem to be moving faster than others that have been in a similar situation. I don't know what the executives knew about this, but they seem to be on top of it.

You'll do the same with Chevrolet 4 cylinder engines - they use a zero-clearance engine with a timing belt. I worked at a GM dealership years ago for about 6 months and saw at least 20 cars with under 50,000 miles on them needing new engines because the timing belts either broke or the teeth sheared. At least the Quad-4 engine uses a timing chain.

I had a few of the Ford 4-cylinder engines. I understand the ones earlier than what I had would have to get the engine replaced if you lost a timing belt. But Ford did do something so that it wasn't a problem with the later models. I lost half a dozen belts on Fords and only had to replace the belt. But a friend had an earlier model and had to replace the engine when he lost the belt.

The belts I had to replace were fairly simple. Looking at these new ones, it's considerably more involved. When you're looking at paying a mechanic upwards of $350 to replace a belt, it only cost me $120 to have my chain and sprockets replaced. (On one of Chrysler's engines, it costs $1500 to replace the thermostat alone. You have to take most of the engine apart to get to it.) My current car is a V-6 with a chain. And, I also have a bicycle. Guess what... That's got a chain too. (Of course, I've got to figure out how to mount an alternator on it to keep the battery charged for the lights.)

There is more to this Toyota deal than meets the eye. Compare the wild press that Toyota is getting vs. the Firestone tires and the GM gas tanks and other forced recalls. There's a pretty big discrepancy between the hand slap GM got and an all out lynching that Toyota is getting.

In other words, I ain't buyin' the hype. But I will buy Toyota again.
you know why the gov. is messing with toyo, its because they don't own it. this is all the opening they needed to harass them to the max! just like alot of folks said on here there still buying toyo's or what ever, big gov. can shove it. its your money buy where you think you get the most bang for your buck.

I agree 100% catfish. There's no reason for the government to demand a recall just because they've sold cars with throttles that are sticking wide open and killing people!!!

I'll just continue buying my vintage & antique vehicles.

I've never had too many recalls to worry about.

I miss the days of being able to work on my own vehicles. I should buy me a pre-80's something just so I can at least change my own spark plugs.
