NYS Trooper Killed In Collision With Tractor Trailer

That was a real shame. She seemed like a good officer. The latest report says she crossed the line rounding a curve and entered the lane of the oncoming truck... actually "sideswiping" it, not head on. Seems she MAY have been using her cellphone or texting.
My codriver texts constantly while driving. I never know if I will get home when we leave out. I feel for her family and friends.

I was on my bike Wed and had a Fish and Game officer towing a trailer pull right out in front of me causing me to lock my brakes up and almost lose it. Yes, he was on a cellphone. I yelled at him to "put that f***ing phone up and pay attention". I wished he would have tried to stop me but he didnt.

Give me your truck number and I'll be glad to anonymously rat the turd out.

Hopefully she wasn't texting since that's illegal in NY and she better have had a hands-free device in use if she was talking on the phone since that particular law has been there since 2001...........pisses me off that the people who are supposed to enforce the laws go out and flaunt them. Watched 1 VA State pull out in front of oncoming traffic without stopping and looking before making his turn, he was nearly drilled in the driver's door by a car that had to lock it up to keep from hitting him. Officer was talking on his phone and oblivous that he was nearly hit. Another one just down the street from that near miss was hit in the door for doing the same exact thing, they charged the car that hit him even though he failed to yield the right of way. Brother witnessed that one, when he told a responding officer what happened they told him to keep his mouth shut leave the scene or he would be charged with obstruction because he didn't see anything.

In response to the above post:
Either someone lied to you or someone is an idiot for not sticking up for what is right. I don't care if he is a cop or fbi if I see something like that and they threaten to lock me up for what I say then they better have a good lawyer working for the state cause I'm going to sue the piss out of them when its done. These people go through a lot of training so they can pass judgment on the public and enforce rules, when they break them they better be ready to take responsibility... which btw is a two way street. On topic. Sad she saw her end like that. Condolences to all involved.

Why AV, what makes them so special to be above it? If she was on her cellphone illegally and I was the truck driver or the company I'd sue the heck out of the state over it and they won't be so exempt anymore. Our police aren't exempt from the new no texting laws in VA but they still do it. If they ever have a wreck though and word gets out they were texting they will be charged like a regular citizen, at least in my county that is what will happen.

I would not be riding with a person who was texting, whether in a car or truck. I have never bitten my tounge when it comes to safety. It took me a long time to learn to slow down and stop running ridiculous hours and even when the truck owner calls me I tell her to hold on to switch over to hands free. Yea I am still using the old headset they sold in truckstops in the early handsfree days. I saw a t/t driver on the news yesterday saying he sees no problem with texting and driving. It will be too late when he hurts someone so what can you do with a bonehead like that,----just my opinion.

I don't answer my phone at all unless I'm stopped on a jobsite or in a parking lot sitting or have a rider with me that can answer it. Good excuse to the owners is that I never heard it ring and it's the truth since the engine noise is so loud in my older truck that has no soundproofing. Even if I do happen to hear it ring I won't answer it.
