Default Truck Trend Biodiesel

Truck Trend (sibling to Motor Trend) did an excellent article on Biodiesel in it's latest issue.

It's called "Emission Control, Is Biodiesel Ready for Launch?"

The consensus is that manufacturer's still aren't quite ready to warrant anything above B5 and that they're probably about 5 years away from warrantying B20, but that most would agree it's alright to run it (guess all of us running B100 are "outside the norm" eh?)

Pretty good article though. If you get a chance, pick up a copy...

Lot's of information on new coming diesel engines too.

BioDiesel has been around for several years. Willie Nelson has been involved in it from about the beginning. It is supposed to be much cleaner than regular diesel. I have spoken with a few people who have used it and most like the way it performs after the initial conversion. If they could get the cost down that would do more to gain greater acceptance.

If you drain it through a sock...maybe you could use it to deep fry fish, or pop popcorn too?

You beat me to it, GMAN. I was gonna say, Willie Nelson swears by it. Of course, he's been trying to legalize grass for years. I think they sell bio-diesel at Carl's Corner. I think Willie is in cahoots with that place.

Yeah, roadhog, there aint no tellin what you can do with that stuff. You might can make a good batch of gravy.

Bio-diesel isn't worth the higher price you currently have to pay and the problems you will end up with down the road. You'll be home for a week in the summer with the truck parked, go to start it, it fires up the cuts right back off or you sit there cranking like crazy. Bio-diesel will start going to a solid form in the injector lines and fuel filter if it sits for more than a day. The longer it sits the worse it will be. It'll cause you all kinds of headaches trying to get it fixed, you'll have pressure at the fuel filter as if nothing is wrong when you hit the bleeder and that throws people. Pull an injector line and try to blow thru it. Every truck we had that ran bio had the same problem if it sat unused.

Bio-diesel is dumb to begin with.
So this thread is perfect for me to make another dumb comment.
Only need a few more dumb posts, and I'll be a Bored Icon.

"Bio"-fuel is as big an economic ripoff as is "Wind" power!

Carl's Corner was really run down a few years ago. I believe that Willie Nelson either bought the entire property or invested heavily to get it back up in good repair. He began to really push bio-diesel and I think it started at Carl's. I don't remember all the particulars. In any case, I would think that Willie has done quite well with his investment. About 2 or 3 years ago I was at the Dallas Truck Show and they had a display with a motorcycle that was set up to run on bio-diesel.

I've passed through there, but it's been several years.
I think I heard it somewhere that Willie owns it, or co-owns it. They talk about the truck stop quite often on his radio station (Willie's Place) on Sirius.
