At least that is what I have been told be some of their drivers. When I used to travel down to Laredo and some of the other border towns there always seemed to be a lot of construction.
I doubt I'd place Laredo, El Paso or Nogalas as safe to live in.

$1,000 per week for a local in an inexpensive place to live? Good luck with that. The cheaper the housing market and living expenses the cheaper the wages. They pretty much go hand in hand. In this market just finding a local job is a chore. I'd lower my expectations a little.

Sorry to hear about your house, thats tough.

I don't know how safe those border towns are, but when I have been in those areas I hear more about crime south of the border rather on the U.S. side. You are correct about the cost of living and high wages. The higher the wages the higher the cost of living. You can live a lot cheaper when you don't have any bills.

There was something on the internet MSN, Fox, CNN about the safest and least crime areas to live. May wanna do a search. It was within a week or so.

You could probably do a search on the internet to find out what cities are the safest. I did hear today that Juarez has had 2,000 deaths so far this year. Of course, that is south of the border.

In the past you could pretty much count on the smaller towns being safer than large cities. The cost of living is usually less in less densely populated areas as well. As was previously mentioned, the lower the cost of living the lower the wages.

I'm not partial to any area. Was thinking Vegas at first since it seems easy to get a place to rent with bad credit out there. But the job market looks awful, and I'd have to stay on the road. Would prefer to find a market where I can get a local gig for the standard $1k/wk at least. Inexpensive and safe are key, warm climate would be nice too. Tired of the northeast.

Would appreciate any suggestions, thx.
Around Vegas try Tru-Line Trucking.

Methodology
To determine our list of America's safest cities, we looked at the country's 40 largest metropolitan statistical areas across four categories of danger. We considered violent crime rates from the FBI's 2008 uniform crime report; 2008 workplace death rates from the Bureau of Labor Statistics; 2008 traffic death rates from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration; and natural disaster risk, using rankings from green living site SustainLane.com.
