Deer collsions
#2
I've hit several deer, and never found any notation on my record. But, that's with the companies I've been with. That does not mean it speaks for all companies. As far as I understand, the insurance companies consider it to be "AN ACT OF GOD". One safety director in WI told me I could be charged if I had control of the deer.

I remember one company, some years ago, tried to deduct the amount of damage from the driver's pay too. That didn't go very far.

I remember one safety meeting that the Safety Manager stood up and told us that the Northern states had a "bumper crop" of deer and that our company had gotten our quota. He then reminded us not to try to avoid them, hit them if need be that the damage done would be a lot less than rolling your truck or hitting someone head on. He also told us that any animal strike would be determined unavoidable and not go against us in any way.

I think on the moose hit, they changed the ruling on it to non-preventable

![]() I don't think hitting animals is unpreventable. Unless, it's broad daylight, and they are standing in the middle of the road. ![]() I wished I had a camcorder on my dash, to show everyone how many deer I see on a nightly basis. It would amaze most. It amazes me. There are lots of pigs and Chipacobras or however you say it.
