Police say woman drove through lawns, hit fence

NEENAH — Police say a drunken woman drove through four lawns and struck a chain link fence on Wednesday while intending to pick up her child from school.




Police arrested the 46-year-old woman outside a S. Commercial Street liquor store on Wednesday afternoon. A 911 caller reported that a silver Mercedes Benz went over the curb and across a lawn near Henry Street and Curtis Avenue just before 3:15 p.m.
Officers found the vehicle outside the store with four flat tires, a missing passenger side mirror and body damage on both sides.
Police traced the trail of the vehicle and found that the woman drove over the curb on Curtis Avenue, went across two lawns, struck the fence and nearly hit a house.
She then went back onto the street, drove over the curb on the other side and went over two more lawns before nearly striking a tree.
The woman turned onto Commercial Street and hopped another curb before driving across the terrace.
The driver didn't recall being in a crash, police said.
She at first denied drinking, though later admitted to drinking too much. A preliminary breath test placed her blood-alcohol concentration at 0.31 percent, or nearly four times the legal limit.
She told police she planned to stop at the liquor store, then pick up her child from middle school.
