Collect calls.
I have a dumb question.
During my wife's lunch break, we ate at one of the local restaurants, and we were talking about phones, and what not. (It drives her nuts to see people trying to eat, and talk on the phone at the same time. She cannot stand that.) I can understand that. Just imagine dropping your phone in your glass of ice tea. :hellno:
Anyway, I said, "I couldn't imagine driving a truck, and not having a cell phone now days. I remember when I was on harvest, (back in the mid 90's) I used to call collect to mom and dad every so often." She kinda laughed, and said, "I don't think I've ever made a collect call." She said, "Kids now days probably don't even know what that means." I asked what she meant. She said, "Well, when was the last time you saw a pay phone? Everybody and their dog has a cell phone now. Why would you need to call someone collect?"
I thought, hmmmm.. I wonder if you could still make a collect call.
I remember I used to call my grandparents collect. My granddad couldn't hear the operator very well, and he would say, "Huh?? Who is this? Do what? Ohh. Yes, I accept."
Here is my dumb question. Is "collect" calling still around? If I wanted to, for whatever reason, make a collect call?
