Actually, no. I think the motor carrier should have to pay for background checks, and I think that the CDL should be all-inclusive for all these stupid ID cards.

What if you are one of the excess trucks? I understand where your coming from and why BUT. Why should anyone tell me "no you can't start that business?" Any and everyone should be free to open any business/store/company they want, some will succeed and most will fail. If we allowed the government to chose who makes/sell or moves what-ever then sooner or later they will also choose who fail

Some driver's seem to think that this is the only industry that has problems (ex. low pay , hrs ect) I bet that EVERY industry has the same or similar problems. I have worked several other jobs in different industries and honestly I have NEVER had an easier job! (Sometime's I really have to wonder why I get paid so much for doing so little!) Competition is just that competition! without it the industry will stagnate and get bloated and eventually be left behind in the dust ( GM & Chrysler)

As far as the "black boxes" I'm on the fence on that for one reason, I hate the thought of big brother looking over my shoulder even more than he does now! I'm afraid that would open the door to putting them in our cars ect... hmm I gotta go that black helicopter is back!

I agree, there's no reason to have different ID's and "enhanced" license, except to raise money

There still are many businesses that are regulated to start up. Telephone, electric, ect. The question was what we would like to see. Doesn't mean that i would want to ever go back to that type of regulation again. There are other reasons for the protest period that i really would like to see again. The elimination of running a MC# into the ground and then restarting with a new # and continuing on. Stiffing someone for a large claim and restarting. Happens every day.

That's the way most cities operate taxi service even today. That is the way the trucking industry was prior to deregulation. That is the way most casinos operate. That is the way the airline industry operates. There are countless businesses that exist that one cannot simply start, but rather needs prior licensing and approval. To a degree, the trucking industry is still this way, except they pretty much approve anyone.

Maybe we could get our own government stooge to sit in the jumper seat to keep us from being naughty.

There are too many people in this industry. You are a fool if you don't realize this. Making it more difficult to be a truck driver would only serve to HELP increase rates and wages. But far too many people look at restriction as a bad thing.

A few years ago there were not enough drivers, now there are too many.

The bottom line is that the endless recruiting is done to bust any hope of a national union which is really what is needed in the trucking industry.

You don't need a union to make money, although we seem to be a magnet for the dregs of life, seems that we get alot of people who can't do anything else in life.
