I think the people that take chances with things like pot are nuts. Even if it was legallized, we would not be allowed to use it. Look at the list of medications that you can not take and drive a CMV. It would simply make WEED another one on that list. I doubt it would change anything as far as the testing.
And, why do I think they're nuts? Stupid, even??? There is a plant that is legal to grow anywhere in this country that contains opium. Grind up the seeds, and mix them into a couple of "roll-your-own's" and get as high as you want. Yet, grow pot and you lose your house. There are other things, too, that will get you high... Nice and high. And, they don't have a means of testing for them. Not illegal either. Things you can use and pass a UA one hour later with no problem at all. No, I do not use them either. But I do know about them. There's one weed that grows from the Canadian line all the way down into SC, GA, AL, MS, and LA. As a kids in WI, we used to stuff the seeds into a pipe and light up. Tried it about 12 years ago when I ran out of cigarettes. No idea just what's in it, but I think I could walk straighter after downing a pint of blackberry brandy. I didn't remember that effect back when I was a kid, and I have not done that since. But if you know what your looking for, just walk along any fenceline and collect all the seeds you can carry in a zip-lock bag in a short time. A good location for about ten minutes, and you can stay in "LA LA LAND" for about a month. With all the things available right here, why support foreign cartells that enslave, torture, and kill people? Look at what's going on at the Mexican Boarder these days. And, you want to make it legal to give them more money??????

And, you want to make it legal to give them more money?????? You don't see Tobacco smugglers pushing millions of pounds of tobacco illegally across the borders do you? No because there is no need to. All of that Mexican Cartel crap only exists because America fights so hard to keep them from bringing it in, and on top of it they get so much more money because of it. Legalization would do many things to improve the situation, first off, it could be legally imported, with tarifs, BUT price will drop so low that the Cartels wouldn't even bother anymore because it wouldn't be worth it, some would probably go the legal route and just grow and import, but a lot of them will move on to other more profitable things, not to mention the import demand would drop drastically because of domestic growth. If the demand isn't that great, and profit low, they would stop anyway, even illegaly bringing it over the borders wouldn't be worth it because street value would be so low. Yes there certainly are many substances that one can get high on that either grow in America or can be gotten in America that are perfectly legal, but for most it is just not the same as other drugs. That is like telling a heroin addict, "There is this drug called Kratum that is legal and is just like an opiate", he will tell you, "Why drink a beer when I can get some moonshine?" And yes Kratum is a real drug . You are correct and I do agree, even legalized it would still fall in lines of a safety sensative impairment. As a side note, I went to walmart bobtailed and got some snacks. Now when I came back out a car had parked in my way that I could not pull out forward, so I had to back out between 2 cars and around another, no big deal wasn't difficult to do. So I backed out, was in the process of going to a gear to go forward, and a chick in her 30's comes up to my window, "Man I can barely get my car (it was a little toyota) in and out of here, how do you do it with something that big?!" I just looked at her and quite seriously said, "Well Ma'am it is quite easy, you see I just close my eyes, and pretend there is nothing around me, and backup" I then gave her a big smile and took off. She looked at me like I just got done smoking something, I laughed all the way back to my parking spot

One of the main points of making it legal is that it will STOP all of that, if it is legal you don't need an underground black market. Trust me if it where legalized there would probably be more pot growing in America then there is tobacco.

If a farmer reports to the government, that it's growing there, he is told that he has 15 days to get rid of it all. But, if he doesn't say anything, neither do they. The fence-lines are full of it, there are whole fields of it. There's tons of it, all planted by bird droppings. And, it would be free for the taking. Yet, we're supporting those cartells. Why?

And, did you know that in NE, there is an area where there are acres of pot growing, more or less, naturally? As long as it's not cultivated or harvested, there's no action taken. Back when my uncle farmed there, any field he put into "soil-bank" would develope "trees" that were 7 feet tall and more by the time he plowed them under.

Works well in Amsterdam. Legalization has my vote. What people do in the privacy of their homes (for the most part) is nobodys business but theirs.
Beer is legal but I have yet to be served by a drunk waiter. It would be regulated just like alcohol.

I am not sure that legalizing marijuana or any drugs would have much, if any, impact on usage. Some years ago I was involved in an organization that attempted to educate people about the problems and dangers of drugs. During that time I had an opportunity to speak with a few addicts who started with marijuana and graduated to the harder drugs such as cocaine. Those to whom I spoke who started with pot felt that the marijuana was the starting point for their addiction. Drugs were just getting started when I was growing up. I don't recall anyone with whom I grew up with getting involved in drugs other than one guy and that was after we graduated high school. Since I don't have the personal experience with them I can only pass along what I have been told.
Whether pot is addictive or not to some, it may be to others. Alcohol doesn't seem to be addictive to some people, but is to others. I think there are certain people who have addictive personalities. In other words, there is something in their personality or chemical makeup that makes some addictive to drugs or alcohol. That is my concern. If it were legalized then it could be more accessible and acceptable to use then they might abuse it. That could create more societal problems. The only way to be sure is to legalize it and see. But, that is not something that I think would be best for our country or profession. The reason some people use alcohol or drugs is to numb themselves or get them to the point that they don't have to think about their problems. You can never escape your problems. Taking drugs or alcohol only prolongs the inevitable and may even make matters worse. |
