Default Good/Bad Drivers

Why are all company drivers lumped together? I read and here Swifty this, JB that. Not all are the same. When I was in training with Schneider I was at a P/G (I think) in Beach Island SC. Does that sound right? I can't remember but anyway we were standing around waiting on our trailer to be loaded. My trainer was talking to another Schneider driver and I was watching a O/O back a trailer into a spot. He tried for atleast 30 min and gave up. Dropped it in the road and the yard dog finished it for him.

At a service plaza last yr in Fl. I saw a Swift driver parrellel park in a spot I knew it wouldn't fit in. He done it one handed with the other out the window holding a smoke. Pretty dang impressive. I saw a O/O take out a bridge on 81 in Va. Well I didn't see it but he went by me tailgateing at 75-80. 20 min later we were sitting still in traffic. 2 hours later when I finally made my way past the wreck I saw the bridge guard-rail gone and that truck destroyed. Anyway I believe that there are good/bad drivers within all companies no matter how big or small.

It is more fun to lump them all together. You dont believe all Swift drivers cant back up do you?

It is the 'how visible are you' effect. The reality is most of the larger companies drivers are descent drivers. But you compare swift with 15,000 drivers, to another company of 150 drivers. That small company has lets say... 3 REALLY bad drivers. Now lets say Swift has 300 REALLY bad drivers. Looking at it from that point of view, that is a LOT of bad drivers, but in reality it is 2%, for both company. The percentage is exactly the same. Obviously I made up the numbers for clarity sake, but you get the idea.

But we need SOMEONE to pick on! The Coolie Carriers are the black sheeps of the industry, so we will continue to pick on em. And in reality any training company is going to have a little bit of handicap in driver rating.

As I sit looking all around,
Confusion and uncertainty is all I found.
The answers are there,
But I do not know where.
Optimistic and hopeful dreams,
Are all I have so it seems.
The future I do not know,
So all I can do is take it slow.
But I do know it will work out,
So I wait and watch without a doubt

I honestly don't know the origin of the term, but it basically means usually a larger company with a high turnover rate, which is usually because they offer the lowest possible pay in the industry, train new drivers, haul cheap freight, etc.

I actually searched it. I've always heard folks around here use the term coolie, but as a racial term.

Coolie - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I just got through reading it. Quite interesting.
