As odd as Big D could be, he did have his funny moments

Rev has just turned into a sour puss, he was quite funny and even witty at times before his rise to power

 

I haven't been on here in a while, is there a back story ? do we need to get his picture on a milk container ?

I think that CFM and Big Diesel need to return.Many may not like them. But the great majority seem to agree that they have some interesting thoughts/opinions and valid input to the board and are missed. Even if you dislike both of them, their input is missed by a good many.

Time for the pot to be stirred a little. Some think that they want everything that doesn't agree with them out of the pot. Then when that status is reached..............everyone gets bored and wonders what in the hell has happened. Nobody comes around the board and it gets downright boring.

I petition board management for a loosening of "interperetation" of board rules for a limited time as it applies to the banning of some past characters on this board. Let's get back some of these characters and move on with what we all loved as lively, current, truthful, if not pointed debate. I really think that this is needed.

Just to make sure Rev that you are absolutely clear that this is not an attack on your tenure here. Things change, and then they change again. Time to loosen up the ropes a bit for a while and get the old gang (feuding) again. It is so very very clear that while in the attempt to silence what are the more controversial personalities........the board itself becomes silenced. That ain't no fun for any of us and certainly can't be of profitability to the owners of the site.

Let's get back to what everyone thought that they disliked! The mostly open discourse that made this board the best by far!!!! Sure there will be regrets if this is done. But the positives (I feel) will definitely in the long run outshine the current negatives which is mainly a dull board.

Those who were banned had a number of warnings before being banned. If I remember correctly, most were banned due to name calling and belittling other members. It was their choice as to either change their behavior or leave. I agree that some who have been banned livened up some of the discussions, but there is no tolerance for continued name calling and personal attacks. With some it had gotten to the point of driving others away from the board and the owners would not tolerate that. I think a lively debate can be good, but when there is a barrage of personal attacks and name calling it takes away much of the appeal.

 

Bel, I completely understand your position, and I respectfully disagree. Since you were never the subject of the personal attacks by some of the banned members, you have no idea the strain it would put on new members who were.

There is a reason there is a set of rules in place, and those you mention who were banned were given plenty of rope to hang themselves. At times, the admins BEGGED them to stop what they were doing. But they felt they were above the law. CFM was banned because he made a habit of turning every thread into a bash on OTR driving. While that might be funny to you (and about 3 others), it certainly isn't funny to those who come here looking for legitimate answers to their questions. He was asked to stop on several occasions. He refused to do so. So he was banned. He came back under several new names, and each time did the same thing. As a result, he earned a permaban.

Big Diesel, aka tfmotors, was guilty of the same tactics. You have no idea how many threads there are in the mod forum (from before my time) devoted to him and his actions. And each of them showed the same results - the mods BEGGING him to stop, and his response being the same generic response which thumbed his nose at them. Then when I was promoted, it began the same thing again. Only this time it was me BEGGING him to stop, and him using the same exact cookie cutter responses. And so I was left with no choice. He could have come back under a new username (and actually did), as long as the personal attacks stopped. But that wasn't possible for him, and so he's earned a permaban.

Sure, these two guys made the boards more active. But they also drove a lot of people away from the site, and made others afraid to even post. It is possible for a member to "stir the pot" without taking it over the line. Golfhobo is a great example of that. He stirs debate, he drives people up a wall (me especially), but he does so within the confines of the rules (for the most part). This site is not called BigDieselDrivers. It's not called CFMDrivers. Those two users do not make or break this site.
