Default Mexico Retaliates for US Closing of Pilot Program

Mexico, NAFTA and protectionist pressures | Don't keep on trucking | The Economist

The Teamsters’ safety argument looks spurious. Mexican transport firms have invested in new trucks and trained their drivers to meet the safety requirements under the pilot scheme. A study commissioned by America’s Department of Transportation, which tracked Mexican trucks operating north of the border in the first year of the programme, found that these trucks clocked up far fewer safety violations than their American counterparts.
Uhm... Yeah and I wear pink furry tutus

As I sit looking all around,
Confusion and uncertainty is all I found.
The answers are there,
But I do not know where.
Optimistic and hopeful dreams,
Are all I have so it seems.
The future I do not know,
So all I can do is take it slow.
But I do know it will work out,
So I wait and watch without a doubt

That's funny because what I read from a 3rd party was just the opposite. Trucks were not new, they were still rags and on inspection they should have been put OOS but were instead allowed to move on.

That is exactly WHY they have fewer violations, because the DOT was just letting them go on and not giving them the violations!

I spoke with a broker last year who had a neighbor who was with the DOT. According to her he said that they were told to keep a hands off of the Mexican trucks. I believe it was a Mexican truck that recently killed a number of people in a bus.

i've seen some mexican drivers along highway 111 in california who had very nice, well kept trucks. they, however, were an exception to the whole picture. one of them was driving in a 379 peckerbuilt, another in a volvo, and many more driving coronados. they were all in pristine shape. they didn't drive like jackasses either.

on the other hand, i thought the retaliation was going to be mexico recalling ALL of the taco trucks in the united states.
