I gave up on beta testing operating systems when XP first started coming out. Too much hassle for me.

Microsoft to unveil test version of Windows 7
Microsoft says regular PC users can test a beta version of Windows 7 early next year

The operating system will let users avoid alerts and warnings from their computers

Rampant security alerts and pop-up windows irked many users of Windows Vista

Windows 7 is set to go on sale in early 2010

Anyone who has ever purchased a new computer to replace an old one, more than once, can understand the inherent problems with doing so without the added problems of dealing with a beta version of an operating system.

Windows 7 is a beta version. Unproven.....USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!

In my opinion, the hardware vendors are viewing this as an opportunity to increase sales. They would basically be forcing us to discard MANY pieces of perfectly functioning equipment and purchase new equipment replacements. I find this tactic unscrupulous and unacceptable.

Microsoft as well as other computer manufacturers (and/or assembly companies) are as guilty, if not more so, in providing their products with such beta software.

It's given to them free of charge from Microsoft, without support, to perpetuate the software as a marketing scheme. Take note the word "scheme". Check your dictionary, as a consumer the word "scheme" is NOT to your benefit.

None of the software I use on a daily basis will run on Linux. Why would I want to switch to it?

Hell, the laptop in my truck runs XP absolutely perfect. I've got a Vista upgrade cd sitting at home specifically for the laptop. I have no intention of ever using it,though.

Your 100% correct. But I also think that anyone who runs a OS in the beta stages runs it as a secondary OS either dual boot or VPC. I had the beta copy's of Whistler and Blackcomb back in the day and never had any problems with them. I've been running 7 for a couple days now, graphics are pretty impressive and seems stable. But havn't had a chance to do much with it.
