Default Has the FMCSA been lax or stringent?

Has the FMCSA been lax or stringent, in their enforcement activities and regulatory proposals, in recent years?

Relative to WHAT?

I mean.... relative to regulations of years past? Or relative to what the crybaby interest groups like MADD, Concerned Citizens, and all the other busybodies would LIKE them to be?

I would not call them lax. If anything, I'd say they have stepped things up a bit from where they were a few years ago. These days, they're doing audits and checking mileages at street-level-addresses, not post-office to post-office. It's making a difference with the guys that total their miles with PC MILER. Those of us that have been using the odometer reading are having no trouble.

I always used actual miles driven when fudging my logbook as to how long it took me to get there!:lol2:

It looks as if the senate is intent on reducing the driver pool, while adding to carrier's cost.

Their agenda is to continuously add to regulations, rules, ect. This article focuses on HOS, driver health and drug testings.

Senators berate FMCSA, offer it more money - 7/31/2008

“The FMCSA has shown a pattern of under-mining its safety mission by proposing weak regulations and failing to provide adequate oversight and enforcement of existing regulations,” the committee stated.

Unfortunately, like everyone else in a position of power/authority, they are pulling at the leaves. In order to know the real safety issues that are faced out here, they would ALL have to get into a truck for a couple of years. A double-edged sword... They'd know just what the safety issues are, but they would also have an "UP-TO-DATE DICTIONARY" of "FUDGE-FACTORS".
