This Katt is running outta' lives I tell ya!!! I've had some close calls this summer; have seen my life flash before my little eyes on a few occassions; I got ran over by someone elses horse this past summer- (my horses wouldnt do that!)- knocked me the heck-out; but TODAY- OMG- someone pass the bubble wrap!; So I go on a buggy ride (a 2-wheeled cart actually) w/a woman I know; it was perfect outside today, and we went a very long ways from home. All was going great until we came to a gravel pit, and shes like, "Lets go up that hill over there". Well, Im game; so we trot on over and as we got closer the hill sure got taller, and she snapped the reins and the horse ran up, she yells "Hang on!" Im thinkin', "Umm, this hill is about as vertical as a hill can get"; sure enuff, the horse gets almost to the top and decides "No friggin way!" so she starts to stop n' TURN- well, there is no way a horse can simply turn around when hitched up; Im thinking "Do I stay or bail?!?" Then, as she tried to turn to the right, she FELL, and the cart began to tip and she started to slide/flip- but then she got pinned against a tree! I bailed as the cart began to turn, the other gal got tossed down the hill; Im on the upside, clawing at the dirt like a maniac to get to the top coz I didnt want the cart to fall back down at me; got to the top and looked back- and of course I start having an asthma attack! So, we had no choice but to try and unbuckle or cut the harness off, and my instinct told me this horse was going to explode; I was shaking so bad, couldnt undo a friggin' thing- and BAM! She popped back up and she and the cart flipped all the way down the hill- neaerly took me with her! So, she somehow landed upright, stood a second, my friend started walking to her but she went totally nuts, bucking and running in circles- I thought dayum, this sucks! sure enough, the cart flew threw the air, the harness ripped off from her and SHE took off like a rocket- leaving us there with a mangled cart! holy s***! So, we had to start walking; walked about a mile (as Im weezing and gasping)until some gal picked us up (they knew eachother); the horse eneded up 4 miles away in some farmers field; we got a truck/trailer to go get the cart and the horse; my nerves are shot and my body hurts, but am ok; broke my super cool sunglasses tho, thats annoying lol. What keeps playing in my head is when I was clawing up the hill like an animal, my life flashing by again; me thinks I need to stay closer to home or stay away from other peoples crazy animals!

I use to train and condition horses for trail, and especially for Endurance Riding.
A horse needs to be both conditioned and trained for steep hills, (like any athlete) and the only safe way up, is with you off their back, holding onto the reins and tail. I always use a hackamore, never a bit...and never placed pressure on the horses face or chest. It is called "tailing." Imagine the weight of you both, plus the weight of that cart on the horse. :hellno: I can also imagine that moron pulling on the bit, to "hang on." It is a blessing the horse was not injured, or even pulled up lame from such a stunt. The humans got what was coming to them. It is a shame this woman is allowed a horse. She is too stupid to own a fish. The horse is not a the "crazy animal." That title belongs to the idiot with the broken buggy, and sheit for brains. I'm glad you are okay! You can get hurt around them, even when things are normal and seemingly okay. I've lost toe nails, by just grooming my horse, and getting my foot accidentally stepped on. I had a very spirited Arabian who liked to toss his head. (typical Arab fashion) Sometimes when I would ride him, laying up close to his body, he would toss his head, and I didn't duck... smack! (*stars*) Of course I chose breaking, breeding and Rodeo too. I'm now scheduling a shoulder replacement, and foot surgery for this winter. Live hard and play hard...but stay smart, and shun morons! ![]() Tucson, full blooded Polish Arabian. 16.1 hands I trained and conditioned him for 3 years to do the Tevis. Only way he and I would do a steep hill, is by tailing. Then he has a chance to pull you up. :block:
