Well, you're right about having or using while ON THE ROAD, but I still don't agree with your statement as it applies to his OFF DUTY time. Besides, we don't know that he wasn't a LOCAL driver getting "plowed" while at home with the wife!
I don't KNOW if alcohol was in any way related to this. I kinda doubt it. They were having a DOT "abuse" check at one of the weigh stations in NC Friday, and an officer being interveiwed said there have been 7 cases of CMV drivers being charged with DUI this year (or in the last year.) That's a very SMALL %. TOO many, no doubt, but very small. So the odds that it was involved here are pretty slim. I haven't heard anymore details yet. Just that he was obviously at fault.
Side note: There have been at least 3 fatal accidents involving trucks in my local area in the last WEEK!! I'm pretty sure at least 2 of them were Local drivers. But again, it really doesn't matter. The dead are dead.
But, thanks for your (cough) genuine (cough) concern for the family of a friend of mine, "D." And for NOT taking this (and every other) opportunity to insult and insinuate.
I guess that's just the kind of "stand up" guy you are!
