Default George Carlin dead at age 71

SANTA MONICA, Calif. - George Carlin, the frenzied performer whose routine “Seven Words You Can Never Say On Television” led to a key Supreme Court ruling on obscenity, has died.

Carlin, who had a history of heart trouble, went into St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica on Sunday afternoon complaining of chest pain and died later that evening, said his publicist, Jeff Abraham. He had performed as recently as last weekend at the Orleans Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas. He was 71.

“He was a genius and I will miss him dearly,” Jack Burns, who was the other half of a comedy duo with Carlin in the early 1960s, told The Associated Press.

Agreed and also hard to believe that he was one of the First Mr Condustors if you have younger kids that love Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends.

Man..... I just heard this on the radio, and I HATE it! George was definitely a genius! Not only as a comic. I saw him on Bill Maher's show a time or two, and he was really a brilliant man!

Hard to pick a favorite "bit" from his many astoundingly funny ones.... but, my favorite will always be the one about "bombing countries with BROWN people!"

This quote from the article even made me laugh....

Carlin, who had a history of heart trouble, went into St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica on Sunday afternoon complaining of chest pain and died later that evening, said his publicist, Jeff Abraham.
IIRC, he did a bit about how dangerous hospitals are.... because so many people went in there just sick.... and ended up dying there!

Our great loss, is Heaven's gain! The ComedyZone up there will be sold out for eternity now!

Godspeed, George!! I miss you already!

Definitely a bummer. I heard about this on Howard this morning and Richard Belzer happen to come in today and was telling some old stories about him and George.

His insights will definitely be missed. He had an uncanny ability to take something completely mundane and make it hysterically funny. We need more like him!

I remember my brother and I would be huddled up in my bedroom watching one of George Carlin's HBO specials with the volume super low so my mom wouldn't hear us.

He was one of a kind.

I watched his HBO special "What am I doing in New Jersey?" as a kid and have been following ever since. I miss him already.
