I read the post here, and I have been noticing the the average company is only offering 2000 miles per week. Sometimes, 2500 mile per week.

Is this the new standard? A higher paying job per mile, but only 2000 miles per week?

I'm not trying to knock this.....I might want to go OTR in the far future....so it's nice to see what the standard is......

It seems to me that if your getting 3000+ miles per week, you either making a low cpm, or you very well liked in your company. But it's no longer the norm to see those kinds of miles being advertised here.

So I'm just curious. :wink:

This could get interesting....Maybe helpful to define a week. 5days, 7days or the use of the 70 hrs???

Lets just use a straight 7 calender day week. No need to get confusing..... :lol: :wink:

I run 5 days a week and average about 2,750 miles per week.

see, that's where the rub is....

OTR used to be 7days.

but more and more drivers don't want to be away from home weekends + more warehouses and distribution networks are going up --shorten the length of hauls( allowing these drivers to not venture so far from home- that they can't make it back by weekend.

so now, throw in the "ol school" OTR drivers still expecting 3000+ miles in 7 days- and companies running a MIXED fleet of Regional + OTR drivers and you end up with less and less miles per week.

Take a typical cream pie-- and start slicing it up with a plastic knife-- the more you slice the pie-- the more pie gets wasted(stuck on the knife)-- this is what happens when you shorten the length of haul down to 500 mile loads-- each time you bump more docks + have to wait for next load assignment-- the 14hr clock is ticking--and you're not gonna get as much cream pie total by the end of week.

Weekends:

Since most loads are now Regional( 500mile) and all the Regional drivers are HOME-- the "ol school' dumb asses like myself are taking a real killing on the weekends at many companies-- having to cover short runs-- then setting on Sundays( wouldn't be too bad if I didn't mind attending different church service each week) Gone are the 1500 mile pickup Friday Morning- Deliver Monday. Gone are the days-- 1000+1000+1500 weeks.

1800-2500 miles/week was the norm for me.
When I drove, the pay increases basically cancelled much of the low-mileage, woes out for me.
As for sitting on weekends, I was more than cool with it.
Pull the bicycle out, ride around the local area, take pictures.
Many thought it was just a vacation, but I just got smart and decided to make the most of that often, available, off/down-time.
I mean, why cry about it, when you could just blow off some steam and forget it ever happened?
That's the reason why I'm so insistent on getting back into the game.
It wasn't necessarily the money, but the fact that relaxation was easy to come by.
That's how I thought of it anyway.

I found a pretty good deal yanking a tank. 3000+ a week with regular routes going by the house. Leave San Antonio tx, and deadhead out to west texas or new mexico to load and go straight back to S.A.

Am I right that most paychecks happen once a week (every 7 days)? If that is so, then use that for this poll.

i run around 700-900 miles a week and still gross around 850 a week. :lol:
