Default Satellite Radio Question...

I've been pondering on Sirius/XM emerging. Last I heard, several months ago, they were joining together.
Here's where I've been thinking.. Are they going to combine some channels, or deleting some? Or...are they gonna just have one name under both? I've heard (over the cb radio :?) that they may combine both of them, and have twice as many stations. Just curious if any of yall have heard anything new about it.

I heard they were combining but who knows honestly I think Sirius is the best out of the two!

Back in September-October I was told by a salesperson that they were supposed to be merging in Jan./08. Was told the same by other people. Haven't seen or heard anything since. Who only knows???

I heard that the two were merging their content together and whichever had the better station for each genre, ie: more listeners would be allowed to stay on, the other companies station would close down and or join the one staying on. When will it happen, haven't heard anything on Sirius about any of it. Last I heard the govt was still up in arms over the whole deal and was not going to allow the merge.

Not sure where the merger stands, I have Sirius, love every minute of it and worth the small investment. I cant imagine life in the truck without the satillite radio.
I had heard, (not thru the grapevine) that one of the possibles, if they merge, is a pay per use channel selection. Kinda like cable. Only have to by the channels you want.
Sirius has in excess of 100 channels (I think), however I only really listen to maybe 7 of the channels.

When the merger proposal was announced I sent an email to my state senator about my objections to this. I received a letter back from him last week. The merger has to be approved by both the FCC and Federal Trade Commision. Neither of these had hearings on the merger to date.

Malaki is correct; the merger has not yet been approved. The channel lineups will not be immediately merged, as the two services have somewhat different technology. (I suspect compression algorithms or something.) So while if there is a merger they might combine their offerings, it's not something that will happen any time soon.

Just got to know what your against in the merger Malaki.
According to what Mel K. has put out there it seems like it's win all the way around for subscribers. In the worst case you would pay no more then you do now to get almost double the channels you have now and, if like most you have only a few channels you listen to you rate will be much less.
We all know the NAB has spent millions on trying to convince people they would have a monoply when it comes to braodcasting which anyone that doesn't have thier heads buried in sand knows that's BS.
I believe (and I could be wrong it wouldn't be the first time) it all comes down to Stern. There has already been meetings where some Southern politicians main concern was how much they pay Stern, this should have nothing to do with the merger but, these bible thumpers are coo coo.
It's pretty sad they waste more time on this then they did looking into if we should go into Iraq and how to get out afterwards,Let Exxon and Mobile merge, sub prine loan disaster,Citi Corp now being run by Dubai and all they can worry about is Stern, sad.

But that's kinda the point. Everyone might only listen to a half dozen channels. But the odds of Drew, Jackrabbit, and my sister (I don't have a satellite radio yet, or I'd say me) listening to the same 6-7 channels rapidly approaches zero.
