Forgive me in advance if this topic has been done to death, but several sightings of the past week on the road have really gotten my ire up. It's about gabbing on the cell phone while driving. During the past week I've been witness to:

1. A driver on the phone, holding the wheel with the other hand, needing to shift on an upgrade and screwing it up, thus becoming a hazard.

2. An LTL on the phone on the ramp from one interstate to another...a 25 mph ramp, not a nice, gradual 45er. You could see him scrambling to find another hand with which to shift.

3. A driver not only on the phone, but apparently lost at the same time, in the middle lane (of FIVE) doing about 30 mph at 6PM (traffic was rolling at twice that at the time).

I refuse to answer my phone while rolling. My family has a code to use if it's an emergency so that I may stop and reply.

There are enough distractions out there. We don't need anymore.

 

Agreed, I don't answer my phone when driving. If someone is with me, they answer it. If not, and the person calls right back, I will find a place to stop and then call them right back.

 

Bluetooth enabled phone and wireless earpiece.

Hands free kit(they are cheap)

Put them on speaker phone(if phone is equipped with one)


I have always used a handsfree kit for my cell phone. To dangerous to drive and hold a phone. The company that I am with now(a big company known worldwide) will fire you on the spot if you are caught talking on the phone while driving without using a handsfree kit.

 

Serves double duty.

Now I can talk to myself and nobody knows what a nutcase I really am... :lol:

 

The same day I got my 1st cell phone I bought a hands free kit for it.

Even with the kit there were times when I refused to answer the phone regardless of who was calling.

I, like many others, have seen many stupid tricks pulled, and several accidents due to people holding the phone and pretending to drive.

 

I've seen several drivers in L.A. and Atlanta traffic not only talking/ holding a cell phone... but ALSO had at least their left foot up on the dash :shock: How in the, you know where, are they going to react to a sudden stop or any other traffic crisis that we see daily in these areas... I pull ahead and get at least a lane or two away from them!

 

This was before cellphones were everywere but I was on the PA pike the I-70 stretch and I passed a car were the person driving had BOTH feet on the dashboard HOW in the hell was he going to get to the brakes if needed. This was Memorila day weekend in 1998 also.
