From the Seattle Times article
Quote:
The blast catapulted one of the truck's axles onto the nearby Highway 16 overpass.
The foundry is on 18 acres in the Nalley Valley industrial area near the intersection of Interstate 5 and Highway 16. Atlas manufactures iron castings and recently built parts for the new Tacoma Narrows Bridge.
For those unfamiliar with that area, Atlas Foundry is about 1200 feet north of the Hiway 16 overpass, and about 110 feet lower than the bridge deck. The rails of the bridge are 4 feet tall on 2 feet of concrete curbing. From what I remember, the propane tanks are in the center of the complex, behind the main furnace, the largest structure on the complex (which covers the entire 18 acres). I know half a dozen guy's and gal's that work there, and hauled in diesel for the furnaces, back in the 80's, before the propane tanks were installed.

That is a pretty good "punt" for the distance.
