I hardly ever use my CB.
But when I'm home and taking Fire/Rescue calls...we are plagued big time with skips on our Emergency radio's. We have a whole new high band microwave which was suppose to filter some of that out. There are times it is worse.
We seem to have to ask the Dispatcher or other Traffic... to repeat, because "skip" stepped on them. We are okay usually on Fire Ground channels. We are more like radio to radio with a CB range, and fortunately that is a good deal...or the chaos would really screw us up. If we figure we are getting too much mis-communication, we will use cell phones. Kinda sucks these radios are so screwed up with so much traffic.

Yes, there has been a lot of activity lately out there. Last week Ch19's noise floor was up around S7 to S9+, and I was hearing skip on Ch 38 LSB from southern florida, ontario, and the texas panhandle. Also heard a DX net on 28405 based near Port Charlotte, FL yesterday evening. Wouldn't know about 6 meters or 2 meter DX since I don't have the antenna for either [yet].

I bet KC0IV & RadioRay were having fun this past weekend.

A solar flare is a violent explosion in the Sun's atmosphere with an energy equivalent to a billion megatons, traveling normally at about 1 million km per hour (about 0.05% the speed of light), though sometimes much faster. The flares have been known to affect the electromagnetic transmissions of many earthbound communication devices.

I gotta soarl flare up now and then. I think it's some kinda fungus. I just dab some diesel on it and light a match.

When it is between my legs...I just gotta remember to take the toothpick out of my mouth first. :?
