I don't really have time to get into this until I get back from my run. Msnbc was just a source for a graph that would have been the same from any source. I don't quite get your point. The U.S imports more than half their usage, China LESS than half. I realize they are competing with us for it, but the producing natiions have no problem REDUCING production when they want to, without missing a shipment. What is the inflation rate of the wages paid to the workers in the oil countries in the last few years? WHY is oil costing us double what it did a few years ago? HOW would that be affected if we lowered our demand? There seems to be plenty of GREED to go around. And THEY would just raise prices if demand dropped on a long term scale. I gotta go for now. We'll get back to this.

Remember this that the Energy policy of this Administration was done in SECRET WITH ONLY THE CEO's OF THE BIG OIL COMPANIES PRESENT WITH CHENEY. No one in Congress was there to help set it no notes were taken so we have no clue as to what was said and what they came up with. Was not to much later that prices started to go up and now look at where they are now and now relief in sight.

Energy was a concern so Cheney met with people who know a lot about it, that's all.

Sheepboy, I know my post was a little offensive but you need to go back and re-read it properly. First I must clarify myself a little. I actually fall into the lower middle class or upper poor bracket. I own my own ~1900 sq ft home on 2 acres. I have clothes to put on my back, I take care of my wife and 7 year old neice. I have enough money to survive, that's it. I get by, no more, no less.

Personally, I think sheep boy is full of $h!t. It seems like he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.
I was tought the same, but in my experiences that has not been true. When working in the engineering field I was told by 3 different lead engineers from 3 different companies when I asked for promotions that I am to good at what I do and they didn't want to loose me. One even brought in an old fling of his and gave her the job. And she spent about half her day talking on the phone another 40% of the day playing on the internet and she took 2 hour lunches. The remainder of her time she did actual work that was crappy to say the least. I still think you were born with a silver spoon, you parents didn't have to give you money for that.
In my experience it has always been that working hard keeps you from getting promotions. Almost every place I have worked, from Mcd's to krogers to the engineering firms that all the lazy people got the promotions
After reading some of your other post I will not comment on being the dumbest statement but for the last part see above remark.
Maybe it's personel pride but sheep boy sounds like he's nothing more than a yes man. Personally I wouldn't clean $&!+ off the bathroom walls if I worked at wally world. NOw if I needed a job and the only job was cleaning $&!+ off walls then you bet your ass I would take it but I otherwise no, I don't think so. And personelly, if I owned my own comapany and I was looking for a new manager the last person I would promote would be a yes man. I want people who can think for themselves, not a kiss ass. Oh yeah, sheep boy since you are willing to clean $&!+ off walls, I know of a few truck stops that could use your help.
If you want to call doing what it takes to succeed being a "yes man", oh well. I have no problem doing anything my employers ask me to do. If today in the office my VP made an announcement saying that we have important customers coming in, the bathrooms are a mess and we cant find the cleaning girl. I would be the first to volenteer. Doing things like this is why i stand out in a company of 30,000. Doing things like this is why In a big company im not a number and even all the way up to the top of the corporation, they know who I am. And this is the reason if I ever get tired of recruiting, I can transfer to just about any position I want in corporate. Actually I have owned a very small yet rather successfull CAD(computer aided drafting) buisness for about 3 years. I also spec'd, built and installed computers for engineering firms. I just could care less for that industry and decided to follow a different course in life. Oh, and like I said, I know of a few truck stops that could use your help.
Now in some respects I do not blame anyone for my hardships, but in other respects I do. Remember the saying the "rich get richer and the poor get poorer"? Well that is as true today as it was yesterday. I have worked hard all my life and it has gotten me know where. I have come to relise that this is where I am supposed to be. It sucks but oh well.
I actually said "in some respects. But before you make a statement like that you should know what I blame on others and what I don't. Do you know why the stay rich and the poor stay poor? CHOICES. The rich get richer because they keep making the same great choices that made them rich. The poor stay poor because they keep making the same stupid choices that made them poor. A good definition of insanity should be "Doing the same things over and over and expecting a different result"
Now to the fuel prices. I think they are outragous. All's it's doing is making big oil richer and your average joe poorer. Like sheep boy said buy stock in big oil and you won't care either. It's that exact mentality that has ruined this country. I refuse to buy stock in an industry that I morally cannot support. I stand by my morals and ethics and would rather eat out of garbage cans than be like J.B. sheep boy.
As long as your OK eating out of garbage cans, THAT IS YOUR CHOICE. Personally, I choose to live differently. I never said I eat or have ever eaten out of garbage cans, I would just rather do that than be like you.
He seems like nothing more than a yuppy, spoiled little give me, give me, I want, I want little child. Has to have all the latest toys and gadjets to fill some missing void in his life. I again will say it is people like him that has destroyed this once great country and made it nothing more than one big giant wally world.
Do you know what the greatest right is in this country that our forefathers gave us? THE RIGHT TO PERSUE HAPPINESS. It doesnt say the right to be GIVEN happiness. You are OWED NOTHING in this country except your freedom to make choices. You are NOT owed a job, you EARN a job. You are not owed more pay...if you want more pay, you can EARN IT. Well I don't expect anything from anyone except a fair chance that's it. The rest I will take care of myself.
Thank you sheep boy for your suggestions on how to be like you
but I would rather be poor
Not making a choice, as stated above for some it is, for some it isn't. I can tell the difference when a person has chosen to be poor and when they haven't. And when they haven't, I am able do have a little empathy for them. Can you say the same?
You keep working for one of the trucking industries biggest contributers to it's downfall and I will keep working on helping the littleman succeed.
The downfall is this. Comapnies like yours and a few others have brought down the price of freight putting a lot of good o/o's out of business. Cheap freight, that is what you guys have given this industry. Another thing companies like your's and a few others have flooded our roads with are unsafe & dis-courtous drivers driving these 65 mph trucks hauling 45,000 lbs of whatever and letting that weight push them down a mountain at 80mph. Or speeding through a 55 mph construction zone at 65 mph to make up time for not being able to do the speed limit. My company, a small 35 truck company recently lost 20% of it's freight to a company with a yellow logo becouse they can haul that freight cheaper. Now some good drivers in my company have to worry that if they cannot find more freight if they will loose there job. I am very happy for you that you are sitting all high and mighty with your holier than thou attitude and your jb stock and all your toys and gadgets, just know that it came at a very expensive price to others. Companies like yours and wally world and others are helping to destroy the american dream of entrepeneurialship. On behalf of the 7 o/o's family friends that I know and the countless others that have been put out of business becouse they cannot compete with your cheap freight mentality, I would like to say thanks.
I will keep working on helping the littleman succeed. It's a tough and dirty war but in the end the little man will prevail.
I'm still trying to figure out why it was "just WAY too good to pass up" Better yet, What advice would you give a little guy asking for financial advice? Because from what I get from your post it would be: jmilici's plan for financial success. The advice I would give will be in bold after your words: 1. Dont work hard, the lazy are the ones who get promoted and get raises. 1. Do the best possible job you can do. 2. Dont do anything your boss asks you to do, no one likes a "yes man"2. I actually agree with the second part of this statement, as far as the first well if your a jb recruiter I guess you would be willing to do it since there is not much difference in job descriptions. 3. Dont invest in successful companies, Investing is for morons.3. Invest in what you believe in, don't invest in what you don't(no matter how successful it is) 4. You can live on two sandwhiches a day, dont set goals for something nice you might want to buy in the future.4. Now this is just plain ignorant. This is what I can afford so I can keep my bills paid. Believe it or not, I don't mind doing it. What the hell do goals have to do with anything, I have them and shoot for them but reality takes precedance. My advice would be to do what is necessary to keep food on the table even if it is just a sandwhich. Oh yeah, you really should not ridicule a person on what they have to do to survive. Atleast I don't sit on my ass and collect free money from the government and complain that I can't be rich. Or sit on my rich ass and put all the poor people down and complain that there are too many. Man, I tell you, that is some great advice for the "little guy". You should write a book. Let me ask you.....How is that working in your own life?I am more down to earth and intune with real life than you are. Atleast I know what the word hardship really means and will never get down on someone for a string of bad fortune. Believe it or not that does happen, whether by choice or not.

Some do the work to survive, yet they can go to a cdl mill and become a truck driver. Some however(poor people, not lot lizzards) are not by choice, regardless of what you think. You probably have never seen what true reality really is. You probably have had everything handed to you and that is your reality. But go right ahead and keep believing what you want. There was more that I wanted to quote but this part seemed to be enough. Are you saying that you're better than lot lizards? I suppose you would. They probably often kiss asses, although it's literally rather than metaphorically. They're obviously lazy, given how much time they spend on their backs or on their knees. Lazy wenches don't want to stand like real hard working Americans! Perhaps if you had spent those four years attending a college rather than a "collage", things would have turned out differently for you. When you completed collage, did you receive a copy of "Femme Assise Dans Un Jardin," by Pablo Picasso, instead of a diploma? Did you have a favorite kind of glue? Did you buy the glue or were you really old school and made your own? Excuse me, but I need to go make a note on my Palm Pilot to remind me to buy gas on the 15th.

You seen to think I have said that I am rich. Im simply middle class. Yes, I have a quite a bit in savings, and yes, I am debt free. However, its not like I have butlers and yachts. There you go saying I had everything handed to me again. Everything I have I earned. Im assuming that you are living paycheck to paycheck. I ask you this, do you have kids?..... What if your kid gets sick tomorrow and insurance wont cover it? How will you pay for that? Or do you just expect others to pick up the tab. Things like this are what keep me motivated to succeed. Things like this is why Im spending my saturday in the office instead of out fishing. Honestly I dont know how any abled person in this country can look their family in the eyes and say "I just dont care about you enough to succeed" So call me greedy if you want. I will live. Personally, I just look at it like this. As a man, its my DUTY to provide for my family. I wouldnt have ever had kids if I didnt have the ability to take care of them. I wouldnt have asked my wife to marry me and start a family if I couldnt take care of them. I hope never to have to experience the guilt when my son looks me in the eyes and says, "Daddy, I want to play baseball this year" and I had to tell him, "sorry, I can afford it. Perhaps my daughter who loves ballet. Ballet costs about 300 a month. Sorry, I would clean toilets before I could tell my daughter that I cant pay for ballet lessons. Or my 13 year old son whose dream in to be a Marine Biologist...I scuba dive and have since I was 12. How great is it that my son wants to do it too? However wtih equiptment costs and lessons to get him started, that is going to cost a little over 3 grand. Man, I would feel like crap if I had to tell him no, I cant afford it. Like I said in an earlier post....I teach the kids the value of working hard to get what you want. My 13 year old earned over 6 grand last summer towards a car and has even more work lined up this summer. My wife recently asked me if we could go somewhere nice for our 10th aniversary. So in Sept we are going to Italy and Spain.... I love her enough to give her those dreams. Like I said, its my DUTY as a man to provide. NOW, jmilici....WERE ANY OF THOSE THINGS HANDED TO ME? Of course not....I EARNED THEM.

SD a few posts ago you asked me what happened to all my savings I think. I had over 62K in the bank when I was forced to retire. It all went for MEDICAL BILLS. When you have a conditon like I do that gets expensive in a hurry and have co pays for insurance you can drain savings in a hurry. I was spending about 1200 bucks a month just on meds the insurance plan my wife had for us thru her work had NO MAX ON OUT OF POCKET but it was better than nothing. Then in 01 I had a MASSIVE STROKE and that was what finshed off any savings I had left. I spent 3 months in a rehab home learning to walk talk and feed myself again so I could even come home. I am happy I am even alive am even able to function as well as I can I do keep my bills paid but trying to have any left over right nnow forget it. My parents are in even worse shape do to medical bills my father another ex OTR trucker has racked up over 85 grand in his copays alone in 4 years. Right now you are healthy but when something bad happens that 20% will bite you hard and then look out.

Frist off BookBimbo, sorry for making a mistake in spelling. I am not perfect, and don't pretend to be. I actually have 7 years in college, not 4. I am also not better than anyone nor do I think I am, that includes lot lizzards. Not sure why you think I am but, think what you want.
Now, sheepboy where do I start. Oh yeah, ooh, your working on saturday, amazing. I got home friday night around 9 pm and will be leaving sunday morning around 6am. Will be out ALL week with one 10 hour break at home on Wed. I don't have any kids but like I stated in my last post seing how you only read what you want, I take care of my 7 year old neice. Oh yeah, she does have insurance. So does me and my wife, who by the way is currently a full time student and works full time in the medical proffession. I also stated in my last post I do not collect anything from the government. I earn everything just as you do. If I can't pay for something I find away. DO NOT MAKE ME OUT TO BE A WELFARE RETARD JUST BECAUSE I DO NOT LIVE LIKE YOU. I take care of what needs to be taken care of. My wife wants a pool for my neice this summer so we will be getting one. It will take a couple of weeks of saving and eating sandwhiches but she will have one. But taking care and providing for a family doesn't mean buying and getting everything for them. My family does not starve, they keep cool in the summer and warm in the winter. No snow or rain falls on thier heads unless they want it to. We have all our teeth, and mine, my wife's and my neice's medical problems are taken care of. Hers and my neices before mine. Oh, I never said I would never clean toilets, I just wouldn't kiss my bosses ass to do it. You don't need butlers and yachts to be rich. In most people's eye's living paycheck to paycheck is middleclass in today's world. Between me an my wife we earn roughly 55k a year. Due to rising prices on EVERYTHING, we live paycheck to paycheck. The only debt we have is a few hundred on CC my wife had to put there in order to go to and from Colorado to see her father who almost passed. Which that will be paid off next month. Other than that every dime we make will be going to bills. THe only bill we have that we don't really need is the internet, but I keep it on for my wife so she can recieve her email from school(although I have been thinking of turning it off). I commend you for teaching your children to work for what they want. But from your attitude and lack of compassion I fear your children will end up like you. You won't see that as bad, but I do. You have that holier than thou attitude that you are the greatest. You probably feel like you are better than me and ironeagle2006 because we are down on our luck at the moment. I think BookBimbo should have directed his "better than" comment to you instread of me. But he probably has the same mentality as you do. Being a man does not only mean taking care of your family. Being a man also means sticking to your morals and ethics. I do exactly what needs to be done to give my family what they want, but I refuse to go against my morals and ethics to get it. That is actually one reason my wife married me. It's called conviction or integrity. Those things might not mean anything to you but they do to me and my wife. These fuel prices might not hurt you but they hurt me plenty. You might be happy to see them rise to $4.00 a gallon but just remember, if that happens look at all the people it will hurt. There are a lot less fortunate people out there than you. The next time you throw out leftovers think oubout those kids out there with druggie parents who can't feed them. Is it the kids fault? No, it's not like they chose those parents. I'll finish later, my wife needs me to do some chores.

As far as this boycott thing........ if it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy sticking it to the man, then go for it. But that is all it is going to do for you. A one day boycott won't hurt the bottom line as the weekly gallons sold won't change. People will either buy their gas/ fuel on the 14th or the 16th. And the people who were smart enough to buy stock in the oil companies will still get their dividends. (You did know that even truckdrivers can buy stocks, didn't you?) |
