Default Galaxy 949 ?'s

Got my radio a couple weeks ago and absolutely love it

Except for 1 thing - it's hard to use at night, because the only lights on it are on the meter and the channel number.

Does anyone know of a lighted faceplate for this radio? Something similar to the Cobra NightWatch setup. I did a Google for lighted faceplates, but it only listed the stickers.

The 979 has what Galaxy calls "starlight face plate"....it is just like the Cobra's Nightwatch

That I am not sure..... :?: Guess the only way to find out would be to contact either Galaxy directly or an authorized dealer......

On a side note.....how is your Galaxy holding up? I have "heard" that the older Galaxy's were great but that the newer ones don't hold up very well with all the vibrations and what not from a truck

I've only had it for a couple of weeks now, so can't say if it'll hold up or not. So far it's 250 times better than the Uniden 68 I used to have.

Will do. This is only the 2nd radio I've ever owned. My first was the Uniden which lasted for 2 years. The only money I put into that radio was a new mic and a peak/tune. This Galaxy was already peaked/tuned when I bought it. It's pushing roughly 28 watts.

the 979 is just a glorified stock cb radio, its just a 4 wattt cb annd it is as good as a cobra 19 dx ultra you can get for $39.00 at kmart, the 979 might have a talkback knob, but hat can be added to any 4 watt cb, so its only the looks your buying.... if you want to spend your money get a dx99v, not a dx979 , there is a big difference in quailty of these two radios, the 99v is built for mobile operations and been around for years, the new 979 is just a copy of a cb and is only built to sell and not been tested for ruff mobile use like the real 99v 10 watt amatuer radio with all the bells built in...save your money buy a midland if you just want a cb radio heheheehe midland the original trucker radio of the 70's
