Good article. It is very clear to me that the DOT has undermined its own integrity and has no interest in keeping us safe out there.

We fought the Mexicans in 1812, we'll kick their asses outta here once again in 2007!

I can see it now... "Get out and stay out! Take the DOT with you."

Please tell me you're joking? You insult my intelligence and don't even know where Ontario is? That would be...wait for it....Canada. I absolutely cannot take you seriously. Thanks for the entertainment. Time for work. Hope "rates don't go down".
Canada is not a country, its a place....

How old are you?
Canada is a country.

I am as old as I was yesterday, except a day older and a hundred years or so younger than the country of Canada. Give or take a month or two.

If you have a job, can you explain how they took your job? I'm interested in hearing this one.

A few things

1) Excellent post, thank you

2) There is a very good reason why they are not talking about cutting the rates! It's no bulletin to anyone that truckers don't want Mexican competition driving rates down. No bulletin, no one who doesn't understand that and if they argue from that position they'll just get written off as 'tell us something we don't already know'.

You see, the DOT is accounting for the interests of other parties involved in this cross border trade who WANT lower freight rates and transportation costs like the automakers trying to produce cheaper cars to compete with the Japanese. They don't want to pay American drivers 50cpm plus benefits to transport the freight because, as an example, that might result in a higher priced F150 competing against, say a Toyota Tacoma.

So, OOIDA talks about 'safety' which means they aren't just concerned with keeping our rates up but they are concerned about the safety of all Americans on the highways. That argument is going to go farther.

3) Other words for those 'sons of bitches' is 'fathers', 'husbands', 'sons'

Having said all that, I can't see where it is fair to the American trucker. Do you want to drive into Mexico the way we drive into Canada?
