Default Vegetarian Truckers?

I have a feeling this topic may go over like a lead balloon but here goes. It will be 2 years this June since I started eating primarily vegetarian. I still eat fish somewhat regularly, and I'll have a steak on special occasions. I'm not fanatical about it, but I do try to eat meat as little as possible.

Why? It's not because I'm opposed to killing animals for food. I still hunt and eat what I kill, or what my family kills. What I am really opposed to is the meat industry in general, especially the fast food industry. It's all about production and sales for them and damn the quality of their product. I choose not to participate and think I am healthier for it.

I am not trying to win converts, or convince anyone they should do as I do. I post this topic only to see if there are any other vegetarian truckers out there. I'm just now going to school, but plan to be on the road soon and would love to hear your tips on eating on the road.

Personally, I don't think it's going to be too hard, but I definitely know that I don't know everything.

My Advice???

Avoid eating on the road all together. The road is filthy, and you could very easily get hit by a car or a truck. It's just too dangerous.

If you insist upon trying to eat on the road, whether it be vegetables or meat, or fast food, or junk food, at least put up a few safety cones around you.

Good Luck!!

Look what happened to this guy:

I was in Wal-Mart buying a large bag of Purina for my dogs and was
in line to check out. A woman behind me asked if I had a dog........

Duh!

I was feeling a bit cranky so on impulse, I told her no, I was
starting The Purina Diet again, although I probably shouldn't because I'd
ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I
awakened in an intensive care unit with tubes coming out of most of my
orifices and IV's in both arms. Her eyes about bugged out of her head.

I went on and on with the bogus diet story and she was totally
buying it. I told her that it was an easy, inexpensive diet and that the way
it works is to load your pockets or purse with Purina nuggets and simply
eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The package said the food is
nutritionally complete so I was going to try it again.

I have to mention here that practically everyone in the line was by
now enthralled with my story, particularly a tall guy behind her.

Horrified, she asked if something in the dog food had poisoned me
and was that why I ended up in the hospital.

I said no.....I was sitting in the street licking my balls when a
car hit me.

I thought the tall guy was going to have to be carried out the door.

Well...since you still eat meat you cannot technically refer to yourself as a vegetarian. I think the extremist nut cases who are vegetarians call themselves "vegans" anyway.....can anyone say "CUCKOO"?!?!?

I, however, DO agree with you regarding the fast food industry and the crap they serve. Personally, I usually buy groceries of my choice and prepare meals in the truck but when I do stop...its the old fashioned sit-down restaurant for me.

Your meal is not just a fuel stop..it gives one a chance to unwind, rest & recuperate a bit....sip some coffee...engage in some lively trucker BS...see who can tell the biggest lie. Your mind needs some wakeful rest before you get that 8 in the sleeper.

As for a more vegetable oriented diet...that is always a good idea for your health (and will hopefully help your girth as well...which is a well documented truckers malady!) Do what works best for you...but I recommend any T/S with a salad bar (there are many). Just insure that it is clean, fresh and to your taste. Give yourself an occasional treat like a steak or lobster (with a salad of course).

I could eat steak 3 meals a day but I don't for health and wealth reasons. You will also find some all-you-can-eat salad bars relatively reasonable $5-7 usually.

I must agree with Useless though, don't eat ON the road...try to get just OFF b4 you chow down!

I've officially stopped eating chicken. I stopped about 3 months ago. This is mainly due to the fact that chickens eat their own poop, they are basically small dinosaurs, and the way they are slaughtered is unacceptable to me.
I don't care if it's McNuggets, Chicken sandwich, or Chick-A-filet, i've stopped cold turkey (pun intended).

As far as going all the way and becomming a vegitarian, i would like to. I could live off of potates, corn and ice cream just fine.

Also, i need you to watch these videos:

I would think the occasional cow would eat their own poop too. They tend to graze in the same places they poop. Not to mention most vegetables are fertilized with poop. if you start thinking to much about what you are eating, you eventually arent going to be able to eat anything.
PS....I dont like live chickens. They freak me out. So I dont care how they are killed. Chicken workers could be using them as footballs and kicking field goals into a giant wood chipper to make nuggets and I would still eat them.
