As a person that started on computers before DOS & windows, I for one would not be rushing down to put Vista" on any of my computers....
If I bought a new computer, I would pay extra to "Not have Vista" installed. But since I build my own, One windows XP pro, and the rest any version of a free Linux distribution is my choice.... (Remember, Linux is for Geeks with a high learning curve.) Since some of my clients just got new computers with Vista on them, I have been getting calls everyday of why everything they try to do on the Internet Including secure web sites, Email, etc, Vista says it either not trust worthy, dangerous, not "signed", etc. Because all of there previous versions where so full of security holes, they went over board with Vista. One way around has been to use "Firefox" as a your web browser, and "Thunderbird" as an your Email client. My 2 cents for what it's worth???

Vista is new, therefore should be considered dangerous.
XP should have another 2 years of support, so my advice to people that ask me is to stick with XP until the end of the support, before even looking at Vista. If, after those two years, Vista has not been enormously improved (if not scrapped, which may come to pass), then stay with XP. Right now, XP works fine and has been debugged quite well. Vista, if it turns out to be a viable operating system, will need a good two years or more to be debugged. Personally, I think Vista was rushed to market without the proper beta testing work done on it. It looks flashy, but the engine underneath the hood is crap right now. Time will tell if they can get it to work, but I have my doubts.

It's taken a while to get used to it and figured out the router problems and overall I like it. I don't know if anyone ever downloaded the free beta version of Longhorn, I had a copy of it and used it for a while but Vista is really just like Longhorn. Everything seems to work with Vista (all the other software I had with XP). I have all ways been a Firefox user but the interface on IE is much simpler now so using it now instead of Firefox.

My 2 cents for what it's worth??? I've never been one of those Windows "haters" but with some of the recent crap they've pulled, and seeing how it can be done better, I have finally found the light.

The only problem I have with Linux is that it takes too much work to make the apps I currently use work on it. CoPilot, MS Streets & Trips, Quicken, Drivers Daily Log, Franson GPS Gate...
So, Windows is what I'll stick with. And as far as Vista being buggy, who remembers what XP was initially like? It was absolutely horrible. Everyone said it was a major resource hog, it was slow, etc etc etc. However, Vista was *NOT* rushed to market. Longhorn has been in the works since before Service Pack 1 was released for XP. It's well over 5 years of being worked on. I've got a copy of Vista on it's way to me. Will I instantly install it when it arrives? Dunno. I may buy a spare drive for the laptop and pull the running XP drive out, and put in the new one. That way, if there's problems, I can just swap the drives back and have my XP back.

There have been versions of Windows that have had short lives with little use. It's as if they were "interim" software. Vista may be one of these. Not very popular, so it will soon be superceded. By the time XP support ends, you may well be able to skip Vista.
