Default safety who's right

here's the story... it's late, no moon, raining and one of the hardest docks to back into we've done in months ... 4 company trucks all trying to get in at same time next to each other. everyone is having a real hard time... so I jump out of the truck call my wife on her cell phone, she's backing the truck ... and start giving her verbal as well as sight signals helping her back ... IT WENT GREAT ...NOW WHAT HAPPENED ...one of the other company drivers called our Safety department and told them we were un-professional and not safe because we were talking on our phones while backing .... what is your opinion ... were we being smart or not.

Sounds like someone was frustrated and jealous that you got the truck backed in.

Smart...using all the tools at your disposal to safely do your job.

If safety throws a fit, grab your phone records and show them. Explain what you where up too.

When my wife and I ran team, there were many, many times that I would get out and use a CB Walkie-Talkie to coach her. Never thought of cell-phones, but the one problem I can think of here is the fact she may have had to hold the phone and drive, unless.... She has a "hands-free" unit. Then, I would say that you actually IMPROVED safety.

I do not see any problem with what you did. Just explain your reasoning to your safety department amd if it is their policy no cell phones while driving they probably will warn you. Then you will no where they stand. Good luck

Am sorry but that is a joke. If someone called my company and said they saw me driving talking on the cell phone they would laugh. Your telling me some company's really care that much about you talking on the phone. Did you damage the truck no so whats the big deal you did your job and got it done. I wouldn't really worry about it. What was not safe about it??? YOU DID THE SMART THING.

Some people has nothing better to do than bitch about everything. That driver was probably jealous because you had your lady with you, and he was all by his lonesome. You are in the right. Me and my other half did the same exact thing when we where in a crappy spot.
