Default Nice DOT inspection today...

This afternoon I was rolling north on 59 into Houston with the usual load of haz-waste fun- classes 3, 4.3, 8, and 9.

As I passed Beltway 8 I saw a Houston PD Truck Enforcement pickup on the shoulder. A few seconds later I saw him rolling in my rearview- "DOT rolling northbound at the Beltway," I said on the radio.

"What's the 20 on that DOT, driver?"

I looked in the mirror. Hmm. Disco lights on, coming up in my lane.

I replied, "I think he's got me, driver.." And he did.

He escorted me off the freeway, through a couple of lights on the frontage road and into a large shopping center parking lot.

I got a quick level 2 with no violations. I offered him my logs with e erything else and he said he didn't need them because he knew they'd show me to be legal.

Afterwards, I was chatting with him and he told me he used to be a driver- an O/O, in fact, and at one time owned 8 trucks. He lost his ass. He showed me a pic of his old truck- a big ol' dark K-whopper W9 with matching reefer. He said he'd stay with the po-po until his pension kicks in- after that he said he would get back on the road.

I told him that I thought an ex-driver would make the perfect DOT because he would know what being a driver is like. He agreed and said he enjoyed dealing with drivers like me, but hated all the "zipper-head supertruckers" who have no business on the road.

When everything was said and done, he pulled out on to the frontage road first, turned on the disco lights and blocked traffic for me so I could get out and get going.

Yeah.
