Wondering how often do you see your wife&kids between runs? How long are you out? Just trying to figure out if I should make a job move or not. I currently am getting the run around from my company (Manitoulin Transport, Canada).
I use to run solo in Canada 4(days on)/4(days off), and liked it a lot. But under the new (Canadian)HOS it might not work well (damn 16hr workshift :x ) I have the ability to run a 5/4-team with my current carrier but I have to wait till August for an opening. I could go with a new company (ProNorth, Canada) on a 10/4-team running to the US...more miles = more $ too! I have a 4 yr old G & 11mo. B, and before you go saying I'm in the wrong field...I had 96hrs away & 96hrs with my kids, it was great, I felt like I had way more time than when I was running a 40hr work week! I have a friend who has been running with Schnieder and has had pretty much 2 days off a month since September last year...I don't want that much. I hate being away from them for sure...but its a necessary evil to have a job where I come home happy for my family!

Our new HOS are killing the family guys. I think its awful.
Additional 2 hours off a day. If your out 7 days thats 14 hours extra out there, a whole day with your family. Only reason it works for us is we do switches and are switches are always late. I'd say the kaibosh is going to be put on these new HOS at least temporarily anyway. Too many huge companies are filing huge complaints and too many provinces aren't complying. Our Yukon scale workers don't know much about them and don't even have any literature to hand out on them.
