Default Satellite Radio Antenna Made For Big Trucks

I was wondering if anyone has tried any of those new satellite radio antennas that are made especially for big trucks. I currently have the one that came with my system (The Sporster by Sirius) when I purchased it, but it was made for a car. However, it does seem to work all right except for when I get near any of the coasts for some reason. Like, for instance, anytime I’m in states that border one of the oceans be it the Atlantic, Pacific, Gulf of Mexico or whatever, it seems to cut in and out on me and usually at the most inopportune times.

Anyway, I was thinking of buying one of those new satellite radio antennas that are made especially for big trucks, but before I do I would like to get some honest feedback from people who have already used both kinds to hear their opinions on whether or not the purchase is worth it or not. Hence, any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

lol That is one of the funniest things I have read here.

Should have bought an XM and you wouldn't have a problem with the signal cutting in and out. XM invests in technology (ie. repeaters) were Sirius invests in personality's. Maybe Howard could loan Mel some money?

It is absolutely essential to mount an antenna on the mirror to get consistent satellite service. It takes less than 30 minutes to do a professional mount.

Note attaching the 3/8" bolts takes about 5 minutes. But depending on the make and model of your truck, a professional installation includes dragging the wire into the cab. I have a Volovo so I unbolted the mirror and used the same conduit as the mirror heater/motor wires to get the wires into the cab.

One little advantage to the set up is that I bolted a Garmin GPS antenna to the same mount. The bolts on one side of the Sirus antenna were exactly the same spread as the Garmin antanna mount and made a perfect mount platform. This increased the accuracy of the Garmin.

For a long time I did not even have my XM antenna outside of the truck, just had it on the dash board and it worked fine. I would have trouble if I parked under heavy trees or something but for the most part, running down the road I never lost signal.

I invested into one of the "trucker" type XM antennas and now I never lose signal aside from in some, but not all, tunnels.
