Ok. have more time to write now.
She came to my door asking....;and since its no big deal, I said 'yes' (I only had about a gal; enough to get her to the little local station 3 mi up our road) I was STUPID in that I gave her a lift back to her truck (about a block down on the lake- I live on the corner of a lake for those of you that dont know) and she told me "I will take it to 't & C' and fill it up for you for your troubles" I was like, "Fine, no biggy". (Iknow what ya'll R gonna say here, so please dont- my husband already yelled @ me for it) Well.....she never came back. Like I said, no real big deal, but still annoying. So.....I hopped on my ATV to go to T &C and asked the lady (I know her) if she happened to see a older, 60's model orange/white chey pickup; she stopped me and said "Why- did they steal from you?" I was like "Huh? well, sorta'"......she handed me the phone and said "Report them" I'm like, "It was just a stupid can"; THEN, her and another gal standing there proceed to tell me that this chick is so & so; and her & her boyfriend (who WAS in the truck, but I didn't get a good look @ him) do this ALL THE TIME -"They are the local meth-heads and the cops dont care; maybe if we report them enough they will do something". One of them pointed out that very truck to me, just a ways down the street, parked along the hwy in front of a trailer house; I said "I 'll just go ask for it back"; but she then told me that since they had already seen my ATV, both trucks, etc; that I should lock-up coz they'll be back. I decided against going over there on the wheeler, went home, got my truck, went back, they were gone. A teen was standing in the yard and I asked "Where are the folks w/the orange/white truck?" He goes "What or./wht truck?" I got pissy n' said "YOU KNOW- THE ONE THAT WAS HERE 5 MINS AGO!"; hes all "Oh,why, did they steal something from you?" I almost pi$$ed myself- I go "YEAH- could you tell me which way they went?" (Obviously he 'couldnt). So I left;Got home, made a report just to have it on record; got ahold of my friend that is the 1st responder (and her dad is a farmer that has lived here forever and works w/the county, etc)She told me how bad it is- all the places they have been stealing from, etc; her dad caught them in the act @ a neighbors, stealing truck parts; He called the sheriff -he chases them down through woods n' fields w/his shot gun; they finally stopped; he held the gun on them and when the Sh. got there, HE got in trouble! He cannot own firearms ever, and now has an assault charge over his head-and the couple got LET GO!! Its such BS! I was warned that they steal ANYTHING to buy their drugs w/; and there are MORE of them than just that couple that live within a 3-4 mi radius of me! So, the problem is bigger than I thought ( There was an 'incident' about a year ago w/a meth bust @ a neighbors house; my folks live just up the street from me- it was their neighbor who had a lab going) I worry about my folks too coz he is going blind, she doesnt walk too good) This sucks. This area used to be the country- now we got all these freiks from Minnecrapolis and St.Paul moving up here! I moved all my stuff to a more secure building on the farm; the rest of it someone is coming to get in a day or two. We really do not have a lot of stuff, but dang, ya work hard for what you have and others swipe it! Oh yeah, forgot to mention; the woman @ our wonderful Sh.'s office chuckled whenI gave the descrtion of the truck/gal- like she already knew about those a-holes! Nice. Cops around here are totally worthless; my friend said they won't do anything b/c it is all 'petty-theft and they are not hurting anyone.' Sorry for the novel; I'm a bit nervy right now.

Tell your Landlord what is going on. Every time you need to call the cops or make a report...notify your Landlord too.
If you need to move out on a moments notice...it will be unlikely the Landlord can sue you or withhold any security deposit, since you can prove you were forced to vacate from unsafe conditions. But...your responsibility also is...you can not continue to keep residing there for months and months while you continue to rack up Police reports. I'm not suggesting you take advantage of the law. But...by all means... use the law you are entitled to...and don't wait for something bad to happen. Plan on moving. Being scared in this case is a good thing. You described these people very clearly...so it is not like you do not realize what you are dealing with. So...do not engage these people in any way. Screw being friendly to them...you know they will take your kindness for weakness. So...don't be a fool. Most crackheads thieve during "tweak-er hours"...which is between 3am and 6am. This is when you need to be vigilant the most...sorry to say. Of course a desperate or wigged out tweak-er can do harm at anytime. If they step on your property to even pet the dog...call the cops. LET THE COPS do your talking. They can tell this creep they are not welcome around your place. Then if they ever return...that is trespassing. They will have the previous incident and the creeps name on record. I can't give you any warm fuzzy words of encouragement or support. If you are living amongst rats, then be glad you are not buying this home. DO NOT engage these people. They are dregs and gang members, whores, addicts, and very dangerous. They love to fight, and are very good at plotting and planning your worst nightmares. You won't win. ....so start looking at moving...and check your new neighborhood a little closer next time. You know me...I like to yuk it up...but right now I want to shake you up. We are just like the cops in this situation. We can't help you...unless you are willing to help yourself. This sounds serious to me. If you keep a really low profile that will help...but come on...that is what this whole neighborhood is about. This is why the cops are not going to war here. Everyone here keeps to themselves, is blind, deaf, and is careful to not drop any blood into the water. Nice weak neighborhood....perfect for the rats.

Thanks all.
I talked to a couple more neighbors; seems one of them has already had 2 run-ins w/these losers- right across the road from me! So, we all agreed to stay alert for eachother. One guy offered me one of his shotguns just to have around; I'll likely get that on sunday. We have talked about moving a lot; just waiting for his driving career to advance (only been @ it for a year; and you know how hard the first couple yrs are). What bothers me more is that when my husband comes home....put it this way, his fav. thing to say is "They better hope the cops get to them before I do". And I know he means well, but his temper may get HIM into trouble, and we def. dont need that! I have 3 dogs, so they typically warn me when something is going on outside. Yeah, I'll have to talk w/the landlord too; good idea RH.

If your Landlord has a computer, use email, and keep it for record. I know it sound harsh, but if you live in a volitile area, you need to protect your interests beyond stashing your stuff. If you have to move out for some reason quickly, last thing you need is a Landlord who wants to be greedy.
Your Husbands feelings of wanting to rip apart anyone who messes with you is great....but you are right. Being John Wayne only worked on TV. In real life...he would only win for loosing. He has much to loose...these creeps have nothing to loose. Besides...if he pokes the rats with a stick and yells at them...all he will do is put their focus on you when he is gone then next day. Swagger also is mostly charming on TV. I hope you can convince him to not build a fire and then not tend it. Regardless, even if he were home every night...you can't fight these people, and win. I wouldn't suspect the cops are so common place and not willing to take interest. That is an easy perspective to have, but you are not aware of a fraction of all that is going on. True they are not going to investigate every petty theft incident...but reports are necessary and will help them work for you. One day when they are shaking down these creeps, and see some of the stolen stuff, people have been reporting stolen...it gives them some leverage. Everytime neighbors report creep #1 ...finally this creep becomes an itch, and on the cops radar. He starts to cost the cops their resources...and oh yeah...THEY are the ones who will plot and plan this creeps worst nightmare...and are the ones who can make it stick. But where there is one rat...there are many more. Point is...if I were you...I'd forget sticking around to see this neighborhood improve. More likely this place will get more infested. This is the internet too...so it isn't like I am in your situation, or know all what is going on. Any advice I can offer is generic. You have to apply what you think helps.

While I was making my first post on this thread...you posted twice, and I didn't have the benefit of that further intel. I might have said some things different, but that is how it goes...when we are offering advice on such a narrow view. Some of what I had to say is from my own experiance both personal, and through my work in F/R. I've responded to meth labs, and seen results of things gone bad. Some of my friends are Sheriffs, and I know a little more of the behind the scenes stuff. Out in California...I lived in a rich rural neighborhood that sounds like yours. It got taken over by rats.
Anyway....right after I posted...my power went out. We got the storm you just got....and it hammered us hard. But every November 10th we get a good o' fashioned azds kicking storm. Then the calls started coming in. People decided rather than slow down...they'd just throw their cars into each other, in ditches, upside down, and maybe if they could.... see how many they could jam together in one small area...blocking the whole road. Trees were getting blown down onto power lines, and some dropping onto the roads. Power lines and transformers all over the County were on fire. Two structure fires, I responded to one. It was right next to our local Indian Casino. They have power generators...so I got some hot coffee and thawed out, before I came home. Wasn't sure if my power would be back on yet or not. Every Department in our County was going from one call right to another, or handling multiple calls at once. I just got in the door an hour ago. My power is restored, but I am one of the lucky ones. So far we have 8" of snow. Not much snow... but what a mess it made of this County. Haven't seen the "Gales of November" yet. They'll be a'comin'. :?
