Default CB Mic's

How much difference does a mic make? I have the stock mic on a uniden PC78Elite and was told to get a different mic to make it better. I have no idea what to look for when selecting a mic any help? (the radio is stock and so is the mic)

A good quality noise canceling mic will "clean" up your transmissions.

A Roadking or an Astatic noise canceling mic is what you want. Do not get a power mic as that radio you have already has a built in power boost (mic gain) and a power mic will only compete with the mic gain and muck things up.

Thanks for the advice Uturn, I do have Mic gain on the radio so I will not need a power mic, so I will just look at the ones you recommended.

Just as Uturn said, get a Road King mic. Dont waste your money on a power mic. That would dismiss the purpose of having your mic gain. Besides, you would have to waste your money on buying 9 volt batteries for the "power mic".

There are replacement mics that do a good job. But, when you put a mic on, have someone else talk on your radio and you listen to how it sounds on his. I've known a few people that spent money on a mic and had everybody saying they were doing a good job. I was trying to tell them they sounded like crap and they would not believe me until they were able to hear what their own radio sounded like.

I do have a power mic on my radio, but I also check it with a portable to make sure the settings have me coming through clear on someone else's readio.

That is the biggest problem I see with doing any mods to a radio is that you don't know what you sound like. I am not a fan of anything illegal for a radio and all the toys (roger beeps, echo, talk back etc..) just bug me when I hear them.

Thanks for the tip windwalker, I will do that.

I love my Astatic mic... Its just the noise canceling one and It was a great improvement. My radio is a peaked and tweeked Cobra 29 LTD Classic.
I used to get responses of your loud but not very clear, kinda fuzzy... Now its Loud and clear.....

I got it almost free using my frequent fueler points on my Pilot card..

Ok, I thought the Astatic was the model of the Roadking mic, I stand corrected. I will compare both.
