Rick Once I hit the road, I have NEVER needed anyone to do it for me. I'm not tooting my horn. I'm just saying that this is NOT normal! Backing a truck is not necessarily EASY... but it is part of what you are trained to do. Point is.... if it doesn't come easy, then you have to work at it. If you STILL don't "get it" you are probably going to HIT someone someday SOON, and your career may be OVER! It is simple geometry! And backing a truck is MORE a part of trucking than "holding the steeringwheel" going down the highway. Not everyone can do it. I don't mean to be harsh.... but it is a major part of trucking. If you aren't comfortable with it by the time you get out of school, or at LEAST by the time you get out of "training," You have a REAL problem. Oh.... you can probably STILL hold a job. Many do! But.... you should NEVER think that it's "OKAY" to be slow to learn this. That would be the same as a soldier who can "strip" a rifle but can't hit his target! By taking the responsibility like you did, and realizing that this is something YOU must do alone, you gain my respect. I didn't mean to imply otherwise. I just want you, and all newbies, to understand that THIS is probably the most important thing you MUST learn! There are NO shortcuts. And often, there are no "second chances." Companies are NOT understanding (usually) of minor fender benders in a truckstop parking lot, or at a receiver. They cost MONEY! And YOU will be the one to "go." Best of luck! Keep working on it! Yeah... we get it! But.... I bet it costs less down here! 21 years in trucking will give you those grey hairs! I've heard of those who could back a double. Would LOVE to see it sometime! Can anyone back a triple?

Pulling forward 10 times... Yes, I've had ocassion to do that when the area is really cramped for space. But, in this case, it was not that cramped, and with the spaces on his left, he should have been able to back in close, then pull forward and move it over into the space in a matter of a minute or two. As many times as he pulled forward, he eventually was BLIND-SIDING into it, and still had to pull forward to move it into the space. I have no idea what he does if he has a space that is REALLY cramped... Not sure I want to either.
