I am vindicated! I was right!

As a child, my mom tried to make me eat spinach! Yuck! I hated it!

Now.... I know WHY!

Bad thing is, just before the news broke, I brought back a load of produce including spinach, and I had some problems with the last pallet. It tumbled all over the back of my trailer, and probably got over the required temp!

But.... I don't think MY load was the tainted one! Thank God! But, it makes me wonder about hauling produce again!

I KNEW there was a reason I hated Spinach!

I saw on the news last week (but I do not remember which state it was) a trucker got caught on a bridge dumping some of that spinach- when the officer asked him what he was doing and why- he said "I was just doing what I was told to."

That's funny,shyykatt.

I talked to my supervisor this week about the whole thing. He told me that we arent worried about the frozen spinach, but its the fresh that everyone is looking out for. Apparently, the ecoil stuff isnt able to do anything when the spinach is frozen, but it is when its fresh. I thought that it would die when cooked, but, they dont know. I was being my goofy self when I asked my supervisor if the ecoil can live in the hot water, but not in the freezer. He was like,"uh,yeah, something like that" :P

LOL, I missed your post!!!!!! Vindicated indeed!

Yes, it was interesting the way the news shifted from saying the problem had something to do with the refrigeration in trucks, to saying it had something to do with using raw manure and the e coli got right into the plant tissue... to saying it had to do with the packaging, good for incubating the bug.

It was all over the country, so I'm sure it had nothing to do with your pallet.

.....Wonder how many of those that got sick from it are "VEGETARIANS"??? You know, they say they eat healthier than we do.....

I've never gotten any spinach fresh. Always in cans and then cooked it.... Well, heated it up anyhow. From everything I've seen and read, that way, there's no problem. I didn't like it when I was a kid, but now I seem to have developed a taste for it. Makes me think that next year, they'll plant something else on those same fields and then we'll have another big flap about that. Hope they stay away from BROCOLLI. I have had that raw.

I hadn't thought about how it may have hit vegetarians a lot worse...

When they get the problem cleaned up, you should try a spinach salad... it is soooo good. When you go to salad bars, you don't ever pick the spinach... ? If you've developed a taste for cooked spinach, then you are in for a huge treat... once it's safe again... when you try spinach salad.

You are making me think, though. I'm thinking about how in some cultures they don't eat things raw... like the whole Oriental thing where they pop everything into a Wok and cook it quickly. I've never used one. But I used to heat up the old olive oil in a nice frying pan I have, and thrown in veggies from my garden... mmmm. (you do know about the problem with over heating Teflon coated pans, right?)

I'm unclear on sushi....
