texas has no state sales tax? no Income Tax be over 65 and save big time on property & school tax ![]() Depends on where you want to live in Texas as far as housing prices, get away from big city's, and not an area like where I live, nice, but retires, drives the market up.

My Washington based employer has these deductions on my pay stub: Fed Withholding SS Medicare That's it. I had 15% taken out on that check. My girlfriend pays about 25% per paycheck in taxes. Again, no state income tax. In the 9 months of this year, we've paid $383.64 in sales tax. Our combined gross income is just over $80,000, so I'd say we're ahead as far as taxes are concerned. I paid $50 to register my car for a year. My CDl (no HZ) was $75 for 4 years or close to it. My last CDL was $110 for 10 years in Oregon. Food is not taxed. But soda is.

Well I have to go to my previous employer and talk to them. They took "State" deductions out of my pay but after talking to the WA Dept of Revenue they shouldn't have been so I stand corrected. WA DOES NOT HAVE STATE INCOME TAX.

It is fairly inexpensive to live in Tennessee, Georgia (except around Atlanta) and Alabama. Mississippi is also fairly inexpensive to live. Major interstates run through any of those states and are great for trucking. I am near 3 major interstates. We have no income tax but do have a high sales tax in my county. Property taxes are relatively cheap and I pay about $25/year for auto tags. If you own a big truck and trailer and tag it in Tennessee, you can avoid paying sales tax with a MC number. I used to think it was expensive to live here until I got on my computer and did some comparison shopping. Getting a little away from any city will result in lower property taxes.

Definitely from a list for COMMUTERS to jobs in big cities! NOT for Truckers! #1. Fort Collins, CO The NEXT small town to be gobbled up by the NorthWARD expansion of the Denver Metropolitan area! #2. Naperville, IL Can't remember off the top of my head, but isn't THIS a suburb of Chicago? #3. Sugar Land, TX Covered in a previous post. This is a HOT, MUGGY suburb of HOUSTON! If you drive out of here, you will have to go THROUGH Houston more times/day than you WANT to in a lifetime! #4. Columbia/Ellicott City, MD Expensive, regimented lifestyle and development. Will be swallowed up by the D.C. / Baltimore Megalopolis within 10 years. #5. Cary, NC If you ain't "Medical", you are snubbed!!! And you can't see the World, for the TREES!!! This is one of the fastest growing areas in the country. Taxes will skyrocket, and Traffic is allready a snarled mess! #6. Overland Park KS Get 30 miles SOUTH of here, or you'll be in the same boat as everyone above! #7. Scottdale, AZ You can't AFFORD it!! This is for the RICH commuters to Phoenix! #8. Boise, ID This is a possibility!! I'm not real FOND of the scenery, (although I was BORN right near there,) but it is the slowest growing, lowest taxed, EMERGING city in the country! Again.... get 30 miles away, near the Interstate. #9. Fairfield, CT Absolutely about to be swallowed with interstates and traffic! Another bedroom, commuter location in the snarl of the Big Apple Corridor!! #10. Eden Prairie, MN Another GOOD possibility, if you like driving on SNOW!! More remote, on the SouthWest corner of the Twin Cities, close to the Interstate without being "surrounded" by it! Personally, I would look into communities on the NorthWEST corner, as they are closer to the lakes, camping, sports area of the Northern part of MinneySoda, without having to deal with traffic to GET there! That's the top 10 places people Really really want to live in. Oh yeah???? WHAT people????? Only those Yuppies who are chained to their desks!! NOT places for TRUCKERS! We drive hundreds of miles a day, thousands per week! Why wouldn't we want a solitary place in the country with room to park our truck, and a short 30 to 60 mile drive through the COUNTRY to get to our terminal/yard??? Are you getting these RANDOM FACTS from the AOL welcome page? And what do THEY know about Trucking??  Hobo

I must disagree! From the areas you list, just GETTING to work could be a problem! And we ALL know we don't get paid, if we can't make it in to work. Then, there's the fact that, during MOST of the winter, you are cutting yourself off from hauling freight due West. It is easier/smarter/more likely, that you MUST haul East or south/north. Look at a map. How many freight lanes pass through that wonderful state? And how many are passable year-round? And, as a matter of fact, I disagree with what you said about the BEST place being anywhere BUT where you are. In most cases, I would agree ONLY if you have lived there ALL your life. But, sometimes it is best for people to ACCEPT where they live.... and make the BEST of THAT!!! Just a little Food for Thought! Not trying to "rankle" you. Hobo
