scalehouse shenenigans
so i was following this swift truck across the scales here in the buckeye on I70, out by cambridge. he rolled across and got the green light, but he went around back and got in line again. he rolled over the scales again and again got the green light. this guy turned again and was going to go over the scale again. the scale master finally got on the radio and said,"swift what the hell are you doing, i gave you the green light two times?" the swift driver said,"well, i am out of hours and them other drivers said if i was out of hours, to just go around the scalehouse!!"

You need to put up a disclaimer that this is a fictional story if using Swift as the driver ,because it could a true story ...What tipped me off was the Swift driver understood /spoke English easily .

Busted in Oregon!
Last summer I was leaving Aurora, OR headed for Portland and inadvertantly turned southbound on I-5.
Well not much choice but go to the next exit and turn around. On that stretch of road there are scales on both sides, went through the southbound scale and realized the northbound was open also. I thought, "Great, they just may be a tad bit curious as to why I hit the north and south scales within 5 minutes of each other."
So, I got turned around and was headed north approaching the scale trying to come up with an appropriate excuse for my circular route. I could not think of anything half way valid. So I just decided to go with the truth, fully realizing it could result in an inspection.
I entered the scales and sure enough I got the "Park and bring in papers" signal. Went in and the three officers in the house all looking at me, one said with a big grin, "Where you headed today, driver?" The other two were snickering behind him and this kind of pissed me off,, you know,,, like they never made a mistake before. So I said,,
"Well, I was looking for a fruit stand and it looks like I found it."

I like the fruit stand response...
We've done that before there in Portland and not been bothered. There's nothing illegal about getting on the freeway headed the wrong way (unless you're headed the wrong way on the freeway... lol).

All I have to say about scales is that I pay $13/month for pre pass and it's the best money ever spent. Even 1 green light a month is worth it.

We have prepass in our auto haulers. We hardly ever get a light, red or green when we're loaded. Signals always blocked because of the headrack hanging 8 feet out over the windshield. It also seems that in California, the Prepass system only works when it feels like it. Even when we're empty (no signal blockage) we only get a light about 50% of the time.
