| You won't be able to drive out of state until your 21 so for the time being look for something local |

| Try the healthcare field. Many of those jobs pay $20-$40/hr...and that's for all hours worked. Strange concept, eh? :D |

Not sure how the job market is in the Fresno area, but if it's anywhere near as bad as the Sacramento area, you are probably going to have a very hard time finding much of anything.
With all the housing/economic problems CA is in right now, companies aren't hiring like they may have in the past. This time last year business was doing good and i was starting to get a good amount of hours in. Right now things are very, very slow. I've been looking for another job, but there is nothing that pays what i am making now.
With your age and lack of experience, you will probably have a very hard time finding anything. I'd start filling out applications with everyone and anyone, and maybe one will bite. |

| Since you're in the Fresno area, have you applied with companies doing agricultural hauling? With a longer view, very few OTR companies will hire someone without formal training. Check with community colleges in Cali offering driver training, it'll be cheaper and probably better than company sponsored training. BOL |

| Sorry to tell you this but most insurance companies won't allow a company to hire a 20 or 21 year old even. Most want at least 23 years old to be insured. |

Hate to chime in with the rest but here are some of the problems that I see.
You only have 2 months experience (you've only had your cdl 2 months).
You did not receive formal training.
To cross the state line you need to be at least 21.
Most otr companies will want you to be at least 22, and formal training.
As for as ideas:
Find any job.
Keep your eyes and ears open.
Find all the agricultural, construction, lumber yards to see what they say.
You will hear bad stories about just about everything, use judgement.
Good Luck. |

Just keep pluggin away.
I had no formal training, not 1 day experience, but a company had faith in me and turned out to be a pretty decent local gig. I'd probably still be there if I could get better benefits and if work was steady through the PA winter, but its tough when your only hauling rebar.
You'll find something, it's just a matter of finding the right place.
Dont let the downers bring ya down. |

| i dunno, i think lebron james is damn near genius. his insights into otr is what i come here for. i mean how he tells everyone how bad it sucks and the wages are so terrible, it makes me think twice about ever getting into trucking, but that is too late. i just wish i had met someone on his intellectual level a few years ago. he must be about the smartest guy hear to have such knowledge of the world and the financial situations of everyone in the united states to tell them how they cannot afford to work for an otr company. he must have went to college in finance or something. he must be so smart that he works for some union outfit that tells him when it is time to take a dump, i wonder if there is a special department in the union responsibe for wiping? i thinkhis insights are an invaluable asset to this site if not the world. |
