What about trying out West, like Alberta. I hear they are crying for truck drivers and will gladly take women. But like mothertrucker62 said, you have to crawl before you walk! You may have to take a job that is not exactly what you want to get some experience. I started out on a single axle, then tandem, then tri-axle, then tractor trailer.....

As a Canadian citizen you must have a work visa(green card) to drive for a company in the USA. And most places I called here for you, they said they want a min of 6 mo. experience. My insurance company will not let me hire anyone with less than 3 verifiable years. Wish you the best, if it was me that paid for a school and they said they would help with job placement I would be beating their door down daily.

Ottawa: You said that the Co-Op company that the school refers students to would not hire you. This makes me wonder, why? The Co-Op company must have felt that you were not a confident enough driver or experienced enough to take a chance on you. Therefore, if I was in your position, I would find a local company and get some experience. When I started out, I worked for a man that had one dump truck. (those are the ones to ask for a job) I had another job and worked for him on the weekends for no pay just to learn how to drive a truck. The industry I am currently employed in took me 3 years of "hounding" the company for a job. In the meantime, I kept driving the dump truck for no pay. It all paid off in the end. The gears are all the same whether it is a straight truck or a tractor trailer. It is the experience that you want. Be resourceful, look in the phone book. Usually the small construction companies in the rural areas are the ones that will take a chance on you.

Happy New Year at first :)
You know that's not true. I am an exellent driver, I am driving manuel car, and never have had an accident and very good at driving.
Some people have a chance to get hired from co-op some don't. I am not very lucky. The school has a lot off students and cannot hire everyone.
I have no job yet but will have one soon.

Thanks

Wow :!: That's a lot of assuming going on there! Why would they even graduate someone if they felt that way?

It's never "guaranteed". What they will guarantee is help in finding you a company that may take you, but work itself is never a "gimmie". Just like a pre-hire is never a guarantee that the company will actually hire you in the end.

There are many companies you could apply to for jobs In southwestern Ontario alone there's Verspeeten in Ingersoll, J.Bryan in Scotland, Kriska, Bison, Ro_lin in Paris, Challenger in Cambridge and also MacArthurs in Cambridge. Just to mention a few. I know that of those they've been helpful to hire newbies in the past. BOL

In her area she has XTL in Alexandria, Nesel in Summerstown, I think B.R Smith has a yard in Ottawa, although I'm not sure what kind of experience these companies require, they may not accept newbies

Challenger would be a good one to contact for a newbie

Maybe look for companies that need local delivery drivers or shunt truck drivers, it's a start, and a good way to practice backing and manouvering, that is how I started as a teenager, and doing that you may be able to work your way up to driving tractor trailers

You have to start some where and you can't always start at the top, nowdays everyone gets their licence and the next day they want to be out driving and making the top wage

Yes Shawnee, I forgot all about Bruce R. Smith. They have a yard in Walsh. There's also Ludwig in Simcoe and Keith Hall in Burford. Jeff Bryan is there also, not in Scotland.

I went to school and asked about the other companies but they haven't more.
What can I do

WOW, that is not good. Most of the students from my school have been hired on.

I have the contact info for a few recruiters from SGT2000 and Kriska if you would like them.

Going to an accredited school has a lot to do with getting a job, and your school is not accredited nor, highly recognized in the industry, and that can be frustrating I know. Just keep pounding the pavement something will happen soon enough.
