Have a truck that when it hit's top speed it slips out of 10th gear. Put it back in and 10 minutes later it slips out again.
Someone mentioned a spring to me; hoping I won't have to replace a transmission or anything. Goin to get it into a shop tomorrow, but anyone have any ideas on this? Thank you

I've driven two trucks that had that problem, and both wound up getting a tranny rebuild done. The second one was plain nasty, when they opened it up there was metal everywhere. I hope you have better luck than I have.

I hope not too, but I've heard that if there was metal everywhere that you would hear a grinding noise. There is a chance that there is a warranty on this truck. Truck is in shop now, so I should know soon.
It was mentioned could be a sliding something or other.

good deal. One truck had no noise, the other did, so you never know. I am glad it was no big deal for you.

I dont know about other trucks , but mine has a magnetic plug. when I check every week or 2 on the trans fluid level, I look to see any metal attached to plug. if there was a lot of loose metal in trans, I would think it would show up there & give an indication before things get worse. if yours does not have one, I am sure you can buy one.

Looks much worse than first anticipated. They dropped somthing when fixing it and found a broken retaining something or other. Long story short I need a new transmission. On top of the new egr cooler for another truck I am having done and this is a costly week.
By the way, it's obvious I know nothing about mechanics but I went with someone to visually inspect the transmission on the floor, the thing that kills me is it was out of warranty by only 31 days. |
