Once 10 years has passed there are companies willing to work with certain types of felony convictions.
Finding the right trucking company is like finding the right person to marry. I really comes down to finding one whose BS you can put up with and who can put up wih yours.

Violent but no assault? :? You'll have to expound a little before anyone is going to know what to tell you.

Yeah, that's going to be tough. There's 2 reasons for it.

#1: it's a liability. Right or wrong, a company that hires you is going to be on the hotseat for hiring you if you do anything stupid with a truck.

#2: Canada. Most carriers still run Canada and require all their drivers to be able to cross the border. You won't be able to and that will severely limit any options you might have.

    Who cares?

Seriously, I don't think they have the same issues with crossing into Mexico, but I can't say that with any amount of certainty. We've never crossed the southern border.

Top of the page in the orange tool bar, click on "Company Listings" and search the companies in your area. Many of them will hire a felon with certain limitations, and that varies from company to company.

There will most likely be trouble with a record bearing any violence, guns or drugs. If it is on your record...you will have limited avenues of employment in Trucking. But at least you can be hired. There are doors that are just closed. Not just in Trucking.

Some companies will accept your felony record, but like Twilight Flyer pointed out may require you to have the ability to cross into Canada.

That will require you to apply for a Canadian Pardon, which is a two fold process requiring lots of time and money to obtain.

The first process is called a Temporary Resident Permit. Costs about $1500 and takes about 2 years to obtain, and is only good for two years. Near the halfway mark...you better apply for the Permanent Residency Permit. It will cost even more money and also require around 2 years to obtain. No guarantee as a felon you will even qualify, even after you spend the time and money in application. They too have limitations on who can be approved based upon your record, and disposition.

It is sad you are facing a life long penalty for your crime and youthful mistake. People don't consider this ahead of time...but boy do they understand it afterwards.
"If you can't do the time...don't do the crime."
I know you heard that before you got arrested. Makes perfect sense now...huh. You paid your dues...YES. "Now you made your bed...and have to lie in it." It is always tough when people are held accountable for their actions. It's just so much easier to not get caught.

Best you can do is make sure your son or daughter does not make the same mistakes you did.
You can find work, but you can not change what has been done. You sound like you are a decent person, and will do well, and square his shoulders. Good luck, and may God bless.

It sounds like you will have more opportunity for better jobs after the felonies are 10 years old. What have you been doing lately? Sounds like you have been driving for O/O's and some may have taken advantage of you.

Still, it seems that you would only have to continue doing that for another year at the most? Buck up, find a good O/O and wait out this last year. Then, contact some better companies and see what they say when the 10 years are up.

I don't know much about this, but have you looked at State DOT jobs? I would think state or federal laws MIGHT require ex-felons to "get a break." Just a thought.

Good luck to you. I will follow this thread, and I will do some thinking and research. I've got an idea or two rumbling around in my head and I want to google a bit to see if there are other avenues for you.

Since it could have been someone in my family you wronged, I offer no advice. Sex offenders have to register for LIFE.

People can change, but one lapse in judgement can haunt you for life. I'd like to know what exactly you did to convince me otherwise.

i agree 19 is not young you are considered an adult. i doubt a company will hire you when they find out it was armed robbery that got your felony. good luck with toll/permit money odds are it will end up missing.

that and the fact you have been dancing around what you really did causes me to have not one pin ***** of sympathy.
    Just getting started
