My late grandfather saw that flag there actually go up on Iwa Jima. His ship LST 399 was beached loading wounded Marines when the flag was raised he said " I never will forget the sight of seeing that flag go up and hearing the CHEERS of the wounded men that saw it knowing that what they got wounded for was not in vain. " He served in the Pacific theater from December 1940 to December 1946 he was one of the ones used to bring everyone home. The hardest trips for him were bringing the former POW's home and seeing the shape that they were in and seeing men in their 20-30's crying when they saw the Golden Gate ad new they were back home. He was a Radio Operator on that LST I do not know what class.

Bulldog2036 As my older brother would say Semper Fi man I never got the chance to serve since my knee was to messed up to allow me into the service. But he is a former Recon Marine but he still can not beat me in a fight LOL. But my family has always been one to serve my dads father was a Ball Turret Gunner on a B-24 and he made the Polesti raid the low level one besides his 29 others before he came back. His stepfather was the one I just mentioned in my last post. My oldest brother was in Desert Storm plus a few other conflicts he is now getting ready to deploy to Iraq so my family does not have a problem with remembering Memorial day. I have 4 uncles that were in Vietnam 2 of them were at Kha Shan the other 2 patrolled the DMZ. They all came home in one piece how we do not know.

Think about this next time a driver complains about having to fingerprint a load.

My grandfather went ashore at Tarawa with the Marines and got a purple heart. My father was in Da Nang during the Tet offensive.

I didn't serve- but I thank God for the men and women that do.
