If truck drivers want to travel across the border from Canada into the United States to deliver freight, that driver must have taken the mRNA vaccine against COVID-19. If it’s up to many truck drivers and other trucking associations, that policy may come to an end.

The Biden Administration has already announced it will allow the health emergency policies to expire in May 2023, but the border crossing vaccine requirement, which has existed since January 2022, may still be permitted to continue.

Among the groups requesting an end to the vaccine requirement are the Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) and the Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA). The American Trucking Association (ATA) has also said that their organization would like to see the requirement repealed.

According to the CTA, thousands of truck drivers are prevented from entering the US from both Canada and Mexico as a result of this mandate.

Ironically, Canada, which received criticism for its draconian measures against striking truck drivers, ended its own vaccine requirement for truck driver border crossings in October 2022.
