Truck Driving Resources for Veterans

Werner offers opportunities for truckers

Veterans Day has come and gone, but at Class A Drivers, we still want to help vets. Too many veterans return from duty and find themselves without steady employment.

Trucking gives our brave military personnel the opportunity to make money while touring the country that they worked to protect.

Veterans Make Great Truck Drivers

Based on the skills that veterans learn and the personality traits they develop, veterans are uniquely qualified to become truck drivers. That’s why we’re putting together this post to compile some important resources for veterans who want to enter into the career of driving.

First, if you’re a veteran and want to learn more about truck driving, check out our article on why veterans make such great drivers.

Veterans Do Need a Trucking License

Veterans, like other drivers, do have to get a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) in order to drive semi-trucks for a living. The good news is that you can obtain a military skills waiver.

If you drove a truck in the military for a minimum of two years, you may already have the necessary experience. You just have to fill out the waiver form, and you may qualify to skip trucking school altogether.

If you don’t apply for a waiver, check out our article on how to pay for trucking school. Veterans actually have the chance to get their CDL for no cost through the Post-9/11 GI Bill. You can read more about the bill on the VA website.

Trucking Companies are Hiring Veterans

Many trucking companies have specific programs to help veterans become drivers. Sometimes this involves financial or other methods of support.

If you’re willing to work hard for good pay, then consider truck driving. Sign up and create a driver account on ClassADrivers.com, and we’ll connect you with trucking companies that are right for you.
