Truck Drivers Team Up to Aid Texas

Crisis in Texas. In February, the polar vortex returned to the United States with unprecedented force. Unlike the last time this weather phenomenon occurred, the icy air reached all the way down to Texas. With the power infrastructure unprepared for such an event, citizens in the state found themselves in a terrible, life-threatening situation.

Seeing fellow Americans in this dire state, truckers from across the nation teamed up to aid Texans in their time of need.

What is #WaterForTexas?

When a deep freeze set over Texas, the frigid, wet weather knocked the power out for about half of the state. As a result, safe drinking water, heat, light, and food were lost almost in an instant.

As soon as the American Trucking Association, or ATA, found out, the group took to social media to boost awareness of the situation via the following post:

“Our friends in #Texas need your help! With many homes and businesses without power and water, we’re asking our trucking family to not only keep all those affected in your thoughts and prayers, but to help ATA coordinate relief efforts, either through cash donations, relief supplies or donated transportation.”

The ATA promised to work with the Texas Trucking Association and the Southwest Movers Association to send trucks to Texas with water for the residents. If you want to help, the ATA is soliciting donations through the link here.

After the rallying cry was posted, thousands of truckers chipped in with cash contributions, social media, and word-of-mouth. Thus far, two semi-trucks loaded up with clean water have been donated to citizens living in Texas.

Individual Acts of Charity

In addition to the ATA, other truck drivers and companies have stepped up to help out Texas. For example, trucking company Speed Global Services teamed up with a local church in Buffalo to haul needed supplies all the way from NY to Texas.

Early reports indicate that Texas leaders did not heed the warnings that their power structures would be unable to handle increasingly severe weather and temperature events. What matters now are the citizens who are desperately in need of supplies, so if you can help, please do.
