Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and Class A Drivers is ready to Carve A Turkey. Most people won’t give much thought to the purpose of the holiday while asking their cousin to pass the cranberry sauce. But truck drivers work hard all year round, and their crazy schedule gives them a lot of reasons to be thankful.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, here are the top 10 reasons to give thanks as a truck driver.

  1. Truck driver pay is going up. Let’s get the obvious one out of the way first. With a severe driver shortage, trucking companies are responding with offers for better pay and more benefits. Simple supply and demand is helping your bank account.
  2. You found a parking spot. After a long day of driving, the last thing you want is to drive around for 30 more minutes looking for a safe place to park the truck. If you found a good spot to park, then that’s one more reason to give thanks.
  3. The ELD and HOS rules are being reviewed. Truck drivers don’t appreciate the constant surveillance of their schedule from the regulations of Electronic Logging Devices and Hours of Service. Fortunately, the FMCSA is reviewing the rules, and changes may be on the way. Cross your fingers for 2019.
  4. You got to drive at night. Some truck drivers don’t love driving at night, but we’re including this for one simple reason: no traffic. If you’re scheduling your runs at night, then you can give thanks that you don’t have to deal with swerving and speeding four-wheelers.
  5. Truck driver wages are in the spotlight. With a recent court ruling, truck drivers are on the path to being legally entitled to a minimum wage pay for all 16 working (and waking) hours spent in the truck. The trucking shortage is putting attention on salary, and that’s a good thing for truckers.

Those are our top 5 reasons to be thankful as a truck driver. What are yours?
