Ladies .... and Men ~ ~ ~ What's Your Handle?

I've looked through alot of the post since I've become a member here ...

and I'm the kind of person that likes to keep information like ~~~

1. what a person's Handle ( name ) is, that's used when their on the road and talking on the CB ....
2. the company they drive for

so when traveling down these long hwy's and someone speaks up on the radio identifying themselves ... I remember who they are ... and I know if it's someone that has a good attitude or not .... and when I pull into a truck stop and I see a truck with their truck number ~ I know if I want to have coffee with them or hide...LOL

get the picture? ... this country is large, but yet so small ... in the few years I was out there ~ I'd come across drivers that I met on the other coast and it helped to make this place seem a little less cold and more comfortable ... especially being a Woman ... it was nice knowing that when I got out of my truck .. solo ... that possibly I would see someone having a bit to eat that I knew ... these kind of things make Life more enjoyable ...

Once when I was in PA. a driver came up to me and said that he remembered seeing me ... a 1000 miles away in another truck stop ... he joined me for lunch ~ and that made my day go by much easier....

if your comfortable doing it ~ why don't you add your handle here and who you drive for ... and I'll keep the info in my journal ~ so when I or any others are in the area .. we can say Hello to someone that we've talked to here at ~ ~ CAD ..

this is a Special Group of people here .. we have alot of new drivers coming on board ... this may help them not fell so alone out there also.
How About It !!

I'll start : .......... 4roses / not with a company yet, but hope to soon :!: Central - USA..

Handle

I've been wanting a handle since i started driving.. But i don't know too many drivers.. i was thinking a person had to earn one, but as much as i get to go out here lately, that would take for ever.
Sometimes people here at work as well as some other people, call me Hec. Short for Hector. I guess Hec is as good a handle as any.. So I am Hec. Complete Packaging Corporation, tractor #4. 2005 International.

Same as here Maveric, been my Handle since I owned a CB :)

GMAN 03-26-2005 06:29 AM

I have been known as Bear for 30 years. I decided not to use it several years ago because of the connotation. A lot of people seemed to think I was the bear. As in DOT Bear. Now I just go by GMAN. It may not be too much better but at least drivers don't think I am DOT. Some of my closest associates still call me bear. Presently leased to CRST Malone pulling a covered wagon.

4roses 03-26-2005 07:00 AM

Maveric - who do you drive for?

GMan .... Bear ~ have you ever gone by the name Little Bear - out of St.Charles? I knew Little Bear years ago - just wondering !!

4roses

GMAN 03-26-2005 03:38 PM

Sorry 4roses, I am from the Volunteer (Tennessee). I was only known as "Bear" before. Some close to me still call me "Bear." I got tired of everyone thinking I was giving them bad info thinking I was a state trooper, county mounty, etc., "Gman" was simply easier and is a pun on my name. I have had some people think I was G Gordon Liddy. He apparently uses the same handle. His is for a different reason. He was once a Federal agent. :D

"Gman" or "Bear" I answer to either one.

Maveric 03-26-2005 04:41 PM

I currently don't drive. Will be going to CDL school within the month after I get some financial details worked out. But I have been on the CB since 1996 while station at Ft. Campbell, KY (Clarksville, TN). The local channel there is 17.

4roses 03-26-2005 05:44 PM

8) thanks Maveric .... I hope your financial details get cleared up fast .. nothing quite so aggravating - as wanting to get on that big road and you come upon a brick wall (per say)......

keep us posted / if there's anything we can asset you with - let us know.

HanSoloWS6 03-26-2005 10:51 PM

More than likely, I'll be using the nickname I got stuck with a few years ago, Han Solo. A guy in my old car club called me that and it stuck. No clue why he called me that lol, but oh well. It's my ID everywhere I post now. And after the 19th, I should have a truck/company to add lol. Hopefully.

IceRatt 03-31-2005 02:03 PM

Silver Bullet 04-02-2005 12:36 PM

My handle is Silver Bullet. Just got moved into a big blue 2000 Western Star. It has KBS on the door and it has the # 71 on the sides of the hood. I will be in Ghent, Ky. Sunday night/Monday morning, then headed who knows where.

Feral 04-10-2005 03:52 AM

Hello. I have actually been putting some thought into this. I remember when I was a kid, I was raised with a reverence for truckers; instilled in me by my Mom and Grandmother. They weren't truckers, but they sure spent a lot of time chatting over the cb's in their cars. They taught us that truckers were respected as the Knights of the Highway and could always be relied upon to help if needed. They made them feel secure when traveling alone with us kids. My Grams was Diamond Lady and my Mom was Scrapper.
As for me, I've been throwing a few around in my mind. My real name is Farrell and I would use that, as in Feral Cat or something, if I liked cats better - I'm a dog person. So I've been reaching back for childhood nicks; being Farrell Lea - there were plenty: Farley, Flea, Ferret, Flaky Lea... Then there's names that are just sort of silly but I like, like CaveLion, Babu, Bollywood (because I love Bollywood movies). I'm pretty much open to anything,I'm just not sure as of yet. Maybe there's help to be found here. Maybe a name the newbie contest!
My DH (Dear Husband) has selected TechNomad or for his since he is your typical computer geek. It fits him rather well. All I know is that I take this very serious because it will be the first time in 15 years that I will be regularly referred to as something other than: Mom or Wife!
~Farrell/AKA: Who knows?

727guy 04-10-2005 06:30 AM

I'm gonna have to figure out what handle to use when I start driving. I had a CB back in the '70's when they were really hot. At the time I was driving a white Chevy Vega with red and blue racing stripes...and my handle was American Lemon..which definitely fit that car.

Maybe I'll go with something like S.F.G.. short for Skinny Fat Guy. I used to weigh over 400 lbs. and now I'm only 170.

As it stands now, I'm scheduled to start training in Charlotte, NC on May 2ND with Schneider. I have to go get my DOT physical and drug test next week. After I get out of the Dr's office I'll run over to the DMV to take my endorsement tests and send off the background check. I'm going to take all the endorsement tests (including Passenger and Tanker). I figure if driving an 18 wheeler isn't stressful enough for me, I can always get a job driving a bus load of screaming kids to and from school.

4roses 04-10-2005 06:59 AM

 sooo is it --- Skinny Fat Guy ?? what ever fit's your personally ... right :!: when you decide -- let us know ... so i can add you to my personal journey / the one that stays on the truck with me at all times.....

let us know :!:

What's My Handle?

I don't know if anyone else has it, but my handle is Road Angel.

Of course there is a story that goes along with it...

I routinely stop and assist stranded motorist - those who really can't help themselves: Mothers with children, little ol' men and women... As long as there isn't a danger, I do what needs to be done to get them going again. Many stories... I had started to notice how everyone was referring to me as their "road angel", soooo... Now I'm known as Road Angel.

One of the things that I always told them when they offered to pay me for my help (never accepted, won't), was that instead of paying me, they could (those who were physically able to) help others, just like I helped them. I told them how to be careful and watch for warning signs of danger, taught them how to change their tires, batteries... anything that would help. So now there is a "Road Angel" club of sorts here in the Southwest.

I'm not with a carrier as of yet. I'm going into expedite trucking...I'm all ready except for finding my O/O who will hire me to run for him/her.

This is a fun thing. Now we will be able to know who's out and about!

See you all soon! Road Angel

TruckinRanger 04-26-2005 07:18 PM

I was in 3rd Battalion 75th Ranger Regiment. I was in from 2001-2003. good old Fort Benning, GA.

BanditsCousin 04-26-2005 07:36 PM

They call me Lost Time.

I picked it up when I went and saw my Ex at college in Omaha and partied a lil too hard the night before and didn't wake up till 4pm the next day. Also, it explains my signature 8)

FreeFloat 04-26-2005 08:14 PM

I'm The Lone Ranger. Story:

I don't have my CDL yet but have had a CB for a while. I drive (surprise surprise) a little green Ford Ranger with an 18" magnamount antenna and at least a 2 mile range :D (sending, anyway, although I had to set up a relay to hear that far)

Well once I was travelling (though I'm more comfortable calling it 'running') from Toronto, Ontario, to Albany, NY in a rainstorm so thick you could cut it with a knife. I was on the Cb just for fun and got in with a pair of father/son tanker yankers. Great guys, we had a real laugh and they sandwiched me between them and we allchatted. Other drivers started trying to figure out who the gal on the airwaves was and we all told them they'd never guess. Well until that time I hadn't really had much of a handle, when asked I'd give either my initials, a variation on my 'real' name or else use FreeFloat, a nickname I use for scuba diving mesasge boards.

Well these two guys told me I should call myself The Lone Ranger since I tend to drive solo, it's a Ranger anyway and it just makes sense. So there you have it.....

BTW I accidentally signed up as FreeFloat by sheer habit but PM'd a Mod about changing my nick here to The Lone Ranger........ but haven't heard back.......

yoopr 04-28-2005 05:44 AM

I'm not sure but i think you can change your nick without the Mods help.
