Good find Solo...that was interesting. So going to 22.5 was mostly for tax savings....

Does anyone have a link to any type of SAE testing?

Sure, but the contact patch for a 22.5 lo pro will be smaller then a 24.5 lo pro tire of the same width.

I'm REALLY surprised if a 24.5 tire is less resistant.

the contact patch is always the same size on a given vehicle ; low pro is wider than tall rubber, but, still the same size footprint

Nope, if the tire is taller, the contact patch is larger.

Why do you think dragsters have such tall tires?

the tire is always supporting the same amount of weight. if you replace a lo pro with a taller tire, the contact patch will be longer, true... but it will also be narrower ; the tire's ability to support weight is measured in psi... pounds PER SQUARE INCH, each sq inch of tire that touches the ground will support 'x' amount of weight

allan5oh 09-29-2007 01:30 PM

I'm afraid that's not how it works.

Psi is the pressure inside the tire.

You're right Allan every one else is wrong. Post me when you open up your tire company
