Had my oil changed Friday, and company overfill by 1 gallon did not noticed til I left and on the rd ,do I need to drain it out. Det. engine, 10 galllons of oil and 1 gal on Lucas,

I would just drain the lucas out... and then leave whatever's left

Always tell whoever is changing your oil to fill it up between the lines, not all the way to the top.
they measure oil level right after you shut that engine down, which is wrong because not all oil is settled down the way it is suppose too.

My oil pan gasket leaked out because of it as that extra oil has to come out somewhere eventually.

Usually what a place does is fill by known quantity - not pulling the dipstick and checking. C15 40 quarts, ISX 48 (2008 engine 44) etc. They probably didn't account for the Lucas but like others said - drain the Lucas and run the rest.......

Are you sure your dipstick reads correctly? I dunno about Detroits, but my former CAT manual basically said not to trust the dipstick innitially. Change the oil, fill with the proper quantity, run the engine for a minute or so, let settle for a few minutes, then check the dipstick. Whereever the oil level is at that time is is where you should engrave or mark your new full line. My '06 ISX always reads well past the full mark after an oil change. Each shop is not overfilling the oil, rather the dipstick is off.
